True. I don't think the McCall loss should be viewed as a clean knockout as some do but rather a somewhat questionable TKO. Still, Lewis did get knocked down hard and was on shaky legs. I imagine people would be bringing the fight up even if Lewis had gotten up to win because McCall is not the level of a fighter who should be able to get to a Lennox Lewis.

i was at the Lewis vs McCall fight and everyone at ringside was shouting "Stop it" when Lewis got up and fell into the referee.. not a single person at ringside did i see complaining that the fight was stopped wrongly.. as Lewis left thr ring around 5 minutes after the stoppage he had to be helped down the steps by his brother and handlers, as they went by me i could see that Lewis was still on unsteady legs and his eyes was Glassy.. McCall very nearly dropped Lewis towards the end of the opening round with a tremendous body punch which badly winded Lewis, as Lewis walked back to his corner at the bell i could see that he was in pain McCall also knew it.

Honestly, take a look at Lennox's record...the people he faced, their punching ability, their KO records at the time of facing Lewis. You'll be hard pressed to find many HW resumes that have as many punchers as his.

Razor Ruddock, Tommy Morrison, Andrew Golota, Shannon Briggs, Ray Mercer, Mike Tyson, Vitali Klitschko, Oliver McCall, Hasim Rahman, David Tua, Henry Akinwande, Frank Bruno, Michael Grant.

A hell of a lot of punching power there.

Ruddock was damaged goods and never landed a punch.

Morrison was drained due to HIV & never landed a punch

Tyson was a decade past his best & never tried after 30 seconds, he was also heavily sedated

David Tua weighed 255lb grossly overweight & never landed a punch.

Golota never landed a punch & was heavily sedated by doctors after taking a panic-attack in his dressing room only minutes before the opening bell.

Frank Bruno had Lewis on `*****-street`many times.

Oliver McCall never poleaxed any other opponent before or after the Lewis fight like he did against Lewis.

The others you have listed was not great punchers.

i was there as a Lewis supporter.. IMO if the referee had let Lewis continue McCall would have ended Lewis career that night.. McCall had Manny Stewart, Eddie Mustapha & Greg Page in his corner he had been in traing camp for 9 months solid, they knew that Lewis dropped his left glove low when he went for a right-hand and they was 100% confident of capitalizing on his mistake and taking him out.. Don King was in the ring before the introductions holding up a huge cheque from William Hill bookmakers in London, King had wagered the largest bet possible of £100,000 at odds of 5/2 McCall would win.. They knew McCall had Lewis number and they also knew that McCall was "Knock Out proof"

Lewis fought and beat some decent fighters but it has to be remembered that Lewis is the only champion in history to be stripped of every belt for refusing to face the No1 contenders, which is a huge black mark against him, as well as the only two IBHOF fighters Lewis fought was more than a decade past their best.

Sonny could you explain the stripped of every belt statement. I'm a bit too young to know exactly how the belts changed hands during the early 90's to be honest so I googled him up.

According to Boxrec he picked up the WBC belt against Tony Tucker and held it until he got beat by McCall. He then won his belt back against McCall and held it until his retirement.

It shows Lennox gained the IBO, IBF and WBA belts against Holyfield. He is then stripped of his WBA belt in court by Ruiz for fighting Grant instead of him. He then moved on with all three major belts until the Vitali Klitshko fight where he appears to have been stripped of his IBF belt. He retired with the IBO belt.

It appears he retired having held onto the WBC belt since Tucker and the IBO belt since Holyfield. So I'm not following the stripped of every belt unless I'm missing something. Who did he avoid in his final fight that lead to him getting stripped of his IBF belt? Other than perhaps Chris Byrd I can't think of any Heavyweights that he would avoid given that he ended up fighting arguably the most dangerous of the group in Vitali.
