Is Pacquiao really a 7 weight champ?

Great fighter, but i've got him down for 5 bonafide titles, with an arguable 6th..

He won the WBC flyweight title in 1998, the IBF super-bantamweight in 2001, the WBC super-featherweight title in 2008, and the WBC lightweight title shortly afterwards in 2008.. He also won the WBO welterweight title in 2009..

He beat Hatton at light-welter, but that was for the IBO belt..
In 2004, he fought Juan Manuel Marquez in a fight that was billed for both the IBF featherweight, and the WBA super-featherweight belts, but the fight ended a draw..

I'd say his most dominant weight was super-bantam, where he stayed for nearly 4 years and Stopped Barrera, but I am i missing something with this
    7th weight?

At face value, Ring belts are more meaningful than alphabet belts. I don't get how anybody would count say, Diaz at 135 for a WBC belt higher than MAB for a Ring belt at 126.

But of course, the man makes the belt, not vice versa. Any title is only as worthy as the man who holds it.

In any case, Pac is a 4 time world (lineal) champion, and overall he is indeed a 7 division titlist.

whilst the ring title is the best, it isnt a world championship. fact is that only the 4 main belts (wbo, wba, wbc and ibf) count towards calling yourself a champion of the wieght. so in other words, whilst we all knew hatton was the main man at 140, he didnt hold any of the major world titles. so pacquiao wasnt a world champion at 140 after beating hatton. IBO is only a minor title and not counted towards calling yourself a champion of the weight.

                This is open to interpretation.

But goin back to my other comment, do you feel that Pac beating David Diaz at 135 is a more authentic title victory than Pac beating Barrera at 126, simply because Diaz held a WBC belt while Marco only held a Ring belt?

He stopped Barrera at featherweight for the lineal title, not at super bantamweight. And piss on the IBO, Hatton was the lineal champion at 140 when Pac beat him.
