If you knew anything about Louis you would kow his slow shuffling style was to draw opponents into punching range so apply maximum power.
Don't know where you get the idea he had poor head movement. Just because he wasn't bobbing and weaving all the time doesn't make that true.
As far as a suspect chin......that is a myth. Flash knockdowns don't make a bad chin. Louis ate right after right from Schmeling before being finally stopped. I think it was over 100 flush rights but am not sure of the exact number. That is hardly suspect. His power of recovery was as good as any heavyweight ever. So you can dead that assumption.
Whether he was faster, as fast or not quite as fast as Ali and Patterson is irrelevant. NOBODY threw harder, faster and more precise punches in combination. That is a fact.
It's not a fact. It's what your eyes and mind are telling YOU,not others.
If you think its only what my eyes and mind aare telling me you're sadly mistaken and really haven't read to much about Louis.
Most of the people on this site don't know boxing history very well. You're a prime example.
I'm 53 years old and have been following boxing since I was 8 years old.
My father was a Big Joe Louis fan,and all I heard growing up was Joe Louis this and Joe Louis that. Then when I finally started watching his fights(about 18 years old)I was shocked to see what I saw.The great Joe Louis was no where near as good as my father had kept telling me.
I have been reading everything I have been able to get my hands on.Especially when it comes to Heavyweights.I got film on every fighter I could get my hands on.

Your barking up the wrong tree my friend.
No, what I am doing is shaming you with facts. You claim Louis was no where near as good as your father said, experts from all over the world disagree with you. This is a fact. Am I lying?

The FACT is that your in the "minority" saying Joe Louis is the greatest Heavy.
What about the boxing experts of the ring magazine?
Who does the ring rank as the #1 Heavyweight of all-time?
I respect their opinion on Ali. In fact I don't have a problem with anyone who has him number one. I do have a problem with people who say there is no way Louis can rank over Ali and look through rose tinted glasses. The fact is though that some of the rings staff may very well be part of the IBRO, but they're journalists first, not historians. The fact also remains that a good number of renowned historians of the sport are part of the IBRO and the majority of them favor Louis. Its not personal, its just the way it is. I have no doubt in another 25 years, maybe even less that Louis will fall as a new crop of historians come about and see's things differently.
