But the story always went that Marciano was to be kept clean No fixes, even no 'approaches' about a possible fix. He was to be the poster child for Italian-American heritage and was to be kept as 'clean as a hound's tooth' (to steal a phrase from Ike). So in an ironic way the mob was protecting Marciano from the mobsters.
Whether judges were bought or pressured we will probably never know. But in the fight game, to point out a bad decision doesn't necessarily mean coercion, often it's just means bad judging.

Pep, Marciano is widely recognized as the most complete boxer of all time and the toughest fighter to ever shìt through a meat asšhole. His punches shook the house like buggery. They often called his fights buggerees. That is something like a jamboree.

Post-Dempsey the Heavyweight division lost a lot of its allure. It had its flash-in-the-pan champions: Tunney, Baer. And good, though not great, fighters: Sharkey, Schmeling, Loughran, Risko. And while Louis had one of the greatest championship reigns in the history of Boxing, his challengers were all but picked off the street.
So it seems like this era wasn't particularly good. They're standing in the shadow of Dempsey, and the next great champion never really materialized.
But then when you look at the Post-War landscape, you actually see what terrible ACTUALLY is. It's amazing Boxing was even still a thing. It's no wonder Marciano went 49-0. With that dearth of talent it's more a wonder that he didn't achieve more.Last edited by Rusty Tromboni; 03-10-2020, 06:51 AM.

I can't believe I'm in triage.
I use to have a 6 pack. Now I have a case.
How are you feeling?
6 months later.
I feel better now.

And as far as Larry's concerned, I won't go as far as Queenie, but it's true few champions had a more au****ious start.
- He came of age at the perfect time to be an amateur.
- Then he was Ali's sparring partner. - He went Pro after the mass extinction event that claimed all the legends of the 60's/70's
- He has the most contrived title reign of any Heavyweight champion.
- He was the darling of the judges... and never issued a rematch to anyone he just sc****d past.
- By the time he came of age, it was perfectly acceptable for a Heavyweight (or any champion) to win based on Pure-Boxing skill, ring generalship, and guile; rather than brutalizing his opponent.
I'm not saying Marciano would have had as much success as Larry had in Larry's era (he was too small, and crude), but he definitely achieved more in less time, under less forgiving conditions than Holmes did.

There was a strong element in the main****** boxing press still promoting the Rocky myth of his brothers that the poisonous Lar latched onto.
When Rocky was an AMA he and his bro would fight on the exhibition tour never part of the AMA fights. Sorta like we don't see Shaq on Oscars record or Lyle Alzado on Ali record.
Watching Rocky emasculate Lar and his dumb fans from his grave was epic.

What am I your effen mother?
You can play your number. Cop A bag.
How do you move that machine around?
The loading dock opened and they ran in.
I'm in the second grade and one kid is a wize azz. The other
is timid and stutters. They were teasing him. I got in trouble
for sticking up for him.
The one girl was eating gum. The black kids started to shake her down.
I stepped up and then I got in trouble. This went on repeatedly.
Is that what I did?
That's my friend!

In the amateurs, if the referee corrects you and if you
just simply say a word. In a blink of an eye. This is
what you're going to hear.
DISQUALIFIED, DISQUALIFIED, DISQUALIFIED
To rich for my blood.
That's how he would say hello to his mother.
