Wlad didn't rematch Byrd until King dropped Byrd from his stable.
Was U ever DKing's Boy?
That explains a lot...Comment

No wlad fought Byrd a month before Vits fought Hoffman. In other words Vits could have had the rematch he just didn't want it. Tired of swinging and missing i guess.Comment

When both Raham and McCall won the title, no one expected anything except a Lewis rematch. Any other fights would have looked bogus.
A one punch KO demands a rematch. (Twice for Lewis)
A quit, (with an excuse) demands a rematch as well.e.g. Liston-Clay.
So there is some onus on the winner to repeat the victory.
But little brother Wald was there to clean up Vitali's mess, and Byrd probably did as well financially with Wald as he would have done with a Vitali rematch.
So Bryd's decision was a smart, but one that didn't work out.
Normally a one punch KO victory or a quit fighter (with an excuse) normally places some pressure on the winner to do it twice.
I suspect you agree.
Funny thing though: Bryd was ready to grab the Wald fight just six months later, which makes one wonder if there was pre-promotion (a just in case deal) with Wald, already on the table, even before the Vitali fight occurred.Comment

Yes I agree the 'onus' was on Vitai to redeem himself but . . .
