I wanted to vote for Barbados Joe Walcott.

But I only know him as an ATG great because I have been told he is.

Which is exactly the kind of history stuff I preach against.

I have not looked into the man and that distant past is hard to de ern, except for maybe the HW who got much more press.

    No film either.

The other three guys I can argue that I know enough of their history to say I think they were ATGs.

Yeah, judging the old timers can be a task, especially the blacks who were shut out. Of them all I am sure enough of Langford and Gans.

The Gibbons brothers had a boxing school, which may have been their lingo for a gym. I have heard Tunney went there, but have never been able to verify that. Maybe not, because Tunney KOd T Gibbons in his last fight. They were very savvy boxers. Tommy even had a punch. Mike's body looks impossible to have a big punch. I think he was a decision guy. Big brother Tommy even whipped Greb the first time they met.

Some of these picks are going to be controversial.

Out of those on this poll.

frankly probably non of them are, althought Barbados Walcott might be I just haven’t looked into his career enough to properly make the claim

edit: just saw the non of the above option lol

Greatness is of course subjective and all time greatness even more so.I'm very parsimonious at handing either out.

All very true. I have a weakness for the Gibbons boys which might cloud my judgement. In my childhood town lived a very old man who had studied at their gym. The same individual had been a sparring partner of Dempsey for the Carpentier fight. He was powerfully impressed by Dempsey, though he was a practitioner of the opposite school and the slick boxing of his mentors. After my now best friend 50 years ago became my best friend, I heard all the stories he remembered, because the ancient gentleman had actually trained him as an amateur.

With a gun to my head I might not call them ATGs. But beating Greb once and surviving Dempsey with class, at least puts Tommy in high company.
