LOL! BRUTAL. He knows this very well. Holmes aced Shavers in that decade, and beat Kenny Norton in one of the best heavyweight brawls I ever saw.

What does any of this have to do with Holmes being top 10 rated in 1976 (mid 70's)?

Still has nothing to do with when Holmes was ranked......which you were wrong about as usual.

Holmes isn't ranked in the top ten until March 1977, as expressed by The Ring annual rankings for 1976.

Which is funny because he doesn't take on any serious competition until November 1977 (Arllington) and finally Shavers in March 1978.

I think maybe Holmes' inclusion in the 1976 annual Ring rankings (March 1977) stinks of Don King.

We're these The Ring Magazine's corrupt years? I wonder. Holmes inclusion at #6 in March 1977 is not warranted.

Funny but Holmes fights a 5-1 fighter (Horace Robinson 5-8-0 career) on the Foreman-Young undercard. A Don King Promotion.

Don King knew how to protect his fighters, until he was done using them. Then he kicked them to the curve.

I got to go with the argument that Holmes wasn't a serious fighter until Shavers in March 1978.

Holmes last fight in 1976 was against Roy Williams. For him to be included in the year end ratings it was this fight that put him in the top 10. The Ring tournament scandal started in 1977, Holmes was not part of it.

Ah! Wait! The scandal broke in 1977. That makes a March 1977 ranking 'the scandal' itself, no?

The 1976 ranking is based on the rankings come March 1977.

(We need to see Ring Magazine's monthly rankings to find when he actually was moved into the top ten.)

They got caught in the August 1977; that means the second half of 1976 and the first half of 1977 were probably dirty. Holmes timetable fits.

Holmes' ranking still looks fishy to me.

The Ring Magazine ratings scandal involving Don King broke into the news in 1977, and the key developments began unfolding in the summer of that year—specifically around August 1977.

                    Key details:

The scandal centered around allegations that Don King and Ring Magazine had colluded to fix rankings in the magazine’s widely respected ratings system.

The goal was to manipulate the WBA heavyweight title elimination tournament (organized after Muhammad Ali briefly retired in 1978, but the tournament plans began earlier in 1977), by inflating the records and rankings of fighters promoted by Don King.

Fighters were inserted into the rankings who hadn’t earned the position, allowing them to qualify for the lucrative tournament.

The tournament didn't start until February of '77 which means Holmes was already ranked and had nothing to do with it. I appreciate you trying to play devils advocate on behalf of Queenie, but the facts remain my friend. Not to mention Holmes was not part of the tournament. I think even King knew he didn't have to squeeze a legitimate title threat into this bogus tournament . Holmes was ranked before it ever started. Anything else is conjecture and ultimately false.
