I came here to talk boxing, you keep quoting me from thread to thread to argue, or mention me in your passive aggressive remarks. I don't mind dropping a cut once in a while, but-all in fighting takes more energy than I have to spare. But you see how these threads wander. We are not really talking about Marciano here anymore. Marciano will be back, but for the nonce the Rock is not what is being discussed. That is OK because that is how group conversations roll, it is natural.

The best weight for mythical matchups for Marciano, Dempsey and so many others, is the old cruiser weight limit of 190 lbs. They are not even defined as heavyweights by modern accounting. They are small cruiser weights. At 190 Langford could fight them all. I think I would have to go ahead and pick Langford over Marciano. Close, but I would still go with Sam.

They are light cruiserweights, because of how they train. Not small cruiserweights though.

1: cruiserweights - especially good ones, just like light heavyweights - have no issue taking down or beating heavyweights. Usyk was a former cruiserweight. Getting on TRT or eating a lot to bulk up is not whats improving his chances.

2: size is determined by your frame, ligaments and muscle insertions. Weight is variable. A small man can be fat (200+) a large man can actually be underweight. You want the ideal weight - which is usually much lighter than people realize.

you can see this in old fighters when they retire. Many of them get very heavy.

3. all these weight division first and foremost were created largely in part for money. Multiple titles means multiple high stakes fights for the public. Yes of course there would have been under matched smaller fighters who got beat up by larger fighters, but we so quickly forget when the opposite happens. This is dangerous too. Take Margarito vs Pacquaio. Pacquiao said something like “boxing isn’t about killing”.

and yes Langford vs Rock is a brutal match up
