      1st fight Johnson conceded 25lbs

      2nd fight 16lbs

      3rd fight 17lbs

On March 29th 1902 Oct 25th 02, Nov 8th and 15th 02. The Oxnard Courier printed that McVey had several times recorded ,1,270lbs of force on a striking machine.
On the same machine Jim Jeffries had registered 1,100lbs,Bob Fitzsimmons 1,070lbs.

McVey's record is incomplete,he had several wins prior to that recorded on Box rec, including a fight in Australia.

"McVey was a Texas native 19 years old, he would be 20 February the 24th ,he had travelled around ,having lived inCalifornia and even Australia.he had twice been in the ring, before coming to Oxnard, once in Salinas and once in Australia.."Adam Pollack .Jack Johnson The Rise page 167 Chapter 9.

"Fighting out of Oxnard, California, McVey stood 5′10½″ inches tall and fought at a weight of between 205 and 220 lbs. He relied more on brute strength than finesse in the ring.[3] His first pro fight listed on BoxRec took place in 1902 at the age of 18,[2] but a newspaper from 1902, on his then-upcoming fight with Jack Fogarty, lists five earlier fights he won in Australia, and a further two that took place in California.[4] However In those days, few mixed-race fights took place, so McVey frequently fought the other top black boxers of his time, including Sam Langford "

                    - - McVey would be a stud in any era, prob being for this fight is Johnson is 24 and McVey 18. Eventually he became a sparring partner and good friend of Johnson.

Participated successfully in one of the earliest mixed martial arts challenges where he knocked out some judo guy inside 10 sec...
