I find it hard to imagine that these guys fought with locked jaws and no guards.

But there is a NYTs article that denotes the NYSAC rule change in 1927.

They also didn't allow kidney belts until 1932.
That was news to me. Interesting.

I don't think I thought of it before, that for ex. "Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney engaged in their historic long count bout with neither man wearing a mouthpiece."

      - - In their first fight, Dempsey lands a big shot to Gene jaw that stops him in his tracks as he works out the mechanics of his jaw to check out if he has any teeth.

Daniel Zaragoza, One of Nacho Berenstain's greatest fighters, yet he doesn't seem to get as much recognition as Gilberto Roman and Marquez Brothers. After he lost two consecutive losses in good efforts against undefeated Hall of Famers such as Miguel Lora (23-0) and Jeff Fenech (12-0). Most would had given up, he got an opportunity to fight the quite aged Carlos Zarate (66-3) who he retired afterwards, a passing to the torch from Zarate to Zaragoza as he got the WBC's backing.

He then went to have a streak of wins against current and former world champions, such as Paul Banke X2 (2-1) with a record of (16-3), Park Chan-yong (29-4-2), Kiyoshi Hatanaka (22-1-1) (retired at 24 years old due to the damage of the fight), Hector Acero Sánchez (32-2-3), Joichiro Tatsuyoshi X2 (13-2-1) (13-4-1), and Wayne McCullough (20-0). He also beat ranked fighters that never won a title such as Mike Ayala (40-3), Valerio Nati (42-3-4), Kiyoshi Hatanaka (22-1-1), Frankie Durate (45-7-1) Within the same year he had fought Erik Morales (27-0), he was a still a top fighter that gave quite a competitive fight prior retiring. Having beaten Tatsuyoshi and McCullough within the same year he fought Morales.

Langford did not return to Australia until December 1912.

Neither O' Brien or Johnson weighed in for their fight, something else you got wrong.

I'm puzzled that you continue here, every time you post, you get corrected and ridiculed, don't you get tired of it?
Perhaps its enough for you just to see your name in print? Is that it?
          - - U trying to correct U fundamental lack of intelligence. My point was Johnson was not beloved in Australia because he's entirely unlikeable as a person and fighter.

Sam Langford was beloved precisely for those qualities.

Really, should get some help with your comprehension that would correct most of your blatant flaws.
