  • The Biggest Con Artist In Boxing History

It has probably been asked before but I will rehash it. Who since 1900 has conned the most people in and out of the ring? Who carried out the biggest cons. Jake Paul could be said to have conned people but to his credit his fights were close things.
Audley Harrison conned the BBC out of millions in his pro career before Haye ended it for him.
Give me some con artists boxers so I can watch them on youtube. or boxing criminals. crooks who also boxed. can you tell us the best gangster boxer?

Make a list and start with Billy Delaney and move to the present.

Just about any manager/promoter makes this list.

          Off the top . . .

          Billy Delaney
          Bill Brady
          Doc Kearns
          Tex Rickard
          Floyd Fitzsimmons
          Billy Gibson
          Mike Jacobs
          Frankie Carbo
          Don King
          Bob Arum
          Bob Lee (IBF)
          Jose Sulaiman
          Butch Lewis
          Dan Duva
          Eddie Hearn

Each and everyone a con artist. How do we measure it, by how much money they 'stole"? Then Queen's correct, Floyd's team takes the prize.

The best measure may be . . . Who took the most and gave us the least?

Maybe the gangsters that promoted Primo Carnera. Except I don't know who they were. But that was a wonderful six year con, that paid them well.

How about the Pete Rademacher defense?

That was a beautifully promoted con by Jack Hurley, working exclusively out of the stellar venue of Fargo Auditorium, in Fargo, North Dakota.

Hurley promoted 37 fights, 34 of them in the 1920s, only to somehow crawl out of the woodwork in 1957 and sell a Pete Rademacher (0-0-0) HW Championship defense to ABC television.

          That's big balls.

I think Jack Hurley may be my guy.

P.S. Actually, Jack Hurley in the 1920s had a multi fight relationship with Billy Petrolle. Not an ATG, but a serious journeyman out of Minnesota, who deserves being noted.

Billy Petrolle (89-21-10) stopped only three times in 120 fights. Went the distance with Canzoneri, Ross, and McLarnin.

Terrible pro boxer Audley Harrison didn't con anyone but he did get treated like the whole future having looked superb winning Olympic gold. The BBC offered him £1,000,000 so he took it lol.

Also, I'm probably using the wrong definition of "gangster" here but my vote goes to Johnny Tapia.

King, that fake smile, those dead eyes and that s*upid ****ing hair.

He convinced the general public he wasn"t a functioning psychopath.

Boxing is a veritable secret society of sharks, con men, and other assorted near do wells who are carte blanche in the game... The fighters are bait, meat... Pawns to be put out and exploited. Fans are the mark.

Just a variety of the P i m p and H o e game really... Fans get to pay we are the John's, the squares.
