Fights that would have been stopped much earlier had they been fought today?

What are some fights that come to mind from prior decades that if fought today would have stopped by the ref or stopped sooner? Maybe even alters the outcome with a different winner?

I was watching Mugabi vs Green today, what a war. Today I would guess the ref stops it in the 3rd round as Mugabi was taking bombs to the chin and head while on the ropes. He weathered the storm and won by stoppage in late rounds.

Ike Williams practically murdered Beau Jack.

That fight would've definitely been stopped earlier, today.

You know Ghost? It almost seems like a thread asking about fights that would be allowed to go on today would yield you a lower number! I agree with breadman about something that is morally ambigious but sacrosanct to boxing: Yes it is a brutal sport, yes it is bad for fighters to take punishment, especially if their resolve is carrying them... But if we are going to have boxing then we have to give the fighters a lot of leeway. Unless a guy takes a kee, or is in a state where they cannot fight back absolutely, the fight should be allowed to go on.

The romantic in me wants to agree.

But it is probably better if we fly off our sofa and shake our fist at the TV screen and yell, "Damn it, bullshlt, you stopped it too soon."

I hate it, but it's probably a good thing that I don't get what I want.

              Like everything 80s and earlier.

It's a thin line. I'm not sure how we've gotten this far without being forced into helmet and mando CTE scans.

                  Levels to the game Always...

What we want Versus what the fighters want, which is inevitably to get every chance at the gold ring, even taking a few brass in the meantime (Pardon the mixed analogy), then we get into some heady ethics: What as corporeal beings are we after? Is it so much worse dying in the ring at 40? or living to piss oneself to a ripe old age?

As fans, what are we encouraging? Do fighters represent a pure, unadulterated form of masculine responsibility? a role model for settling things in a paradoxically "civilized" manner?" which actually makes a lot of sense considering what Western Marquis Rules boxing replaced. Is there anything more disgraceful and horrible than dying in a duel? or losing one's sight in a rough and tumble battle where anything goes? What of our family? Or, are fighters our id, a means to an end more like betting on a fighting dog, than a model of upright actions?

In my humble and unsolicited opinion, What you want is not ill conceived sadistic pleasure...Human Beings have the creative impact to shape that which is brutal and turn it into an art with a designed purpose. Nature is brutal vis a vis Hobbs lol, Life is nasty brutish and short and a fight reflects this. Same idea as a great rap artist (I know I know Oxymoron lol) do they create the violence they speak of? Or are they simply shaping it, embracing it and making it purposeful, controllable, as well as baring witness?

A bullfight is abject cruelty and imo nothing more... The Bull has no idea, very little control, and it serves no purpose for him, whom is simply a means to a sadistic end. But in a boxing match both men regardless of winning, or losing, can win by giving a good account of oneself. Both men know value of the fight based on risk, and reward, and both men ultimately respect each other for stepping up.

                    A great post.

Not sure if people are aware that fairly recent research (2012)suggests that men's fists (more so than women's) specifically evolved for combat as well as dexterity.

I can't remember the exact paper though.

Aa for bullfighting every time I hear a matador has been killed I cheer loudly for the bull.

All animal cruelty is sick and sadistic.

I used to follow that evil b*stard Adam Britton's
crocodilian blog (he was was a world leading expert and even Attenborough had met him) and was utterly horrified when he was finally found out.

The details of the court transcripts were simply horrific so I certainly won't repeat them here.

                    Those poor, poor dogs.
