NWS are newspaper decisions ND are no decisions.

Sam Langford is credited with 38 draws by Box Rec,many of them against obscure fighters.I guess we will have to re-evaluate his standing as a great fighter?

I don't think the OP of this thread expected the reaction he has so far received! lol

That's true! ND fights were from a time where certain US states didn't allow an official verdict, when a fight went the full scheduled distance.

But these fights were "decided" by newspaper reports - and appear on boxers' records as w-nws, l-nws or d-nws... which I of course don't need to tell you, as you already know this.

My question is this: should the NWS decision fights count as real fights or not?

Yes, they were naturally real fights - but should they count as real fights, when we discuss a boxer's record? At least in the case of Sam Langford, you apparently don't think so, when you say he had only 38 draws.

George Dixon, more draws than any fighter in history. Fought in the same era as Johnson. Still seen as a top 10 all time great bantamweight.

I think you're forgetting guys like Young Farrell, Joe Gorman and Young Papke... who all had far more draws than Dixon!

I stand corrected. Am I thinking most draws for a world champion?

You probably are - in which case you would be correct.
