I presume you are not an admirer of Liston?

Have you ever seen photos of the scars on his back?

I am not an admirer. But that has nothing to do with tempering your hyperbole.

We don't know if he was an abused child. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't.

There is no doubt he had a tough childhood, but so did so many other Americans during those days.

No I never saw scares on his back.

You have his father beating him EVERYDAY. I doubt that.

You have him being treated like a beast. I doubt that too.

Maybe you have too much admiration for the man. You're trying to make him a martyr.

          No I am not.

Read the facts, they are very well documented.

Perhaps your obvious dislike of the man colours your judgement too?

No! Why do posters always go with that troupe?

I have no opinion on Liston. I don't think much of your hyperbole, really nothing to do with Liston.

I don't believe the child was beaten EVERYDAY of his life or treated like a beast.

I like to keep the historical evaluations realistic, you can gain better insight to the period studied.

Not true. He is one of the turds in the bag. Same amount of brain matter in both.

Hyperbole does risk that which is sobering and true... It should definitely be noted that according to Sony, who was matter of fact, his father was indeed abusive... every day? who knows, though I do believe there is a quote from Liston that it was a daily occurance. It should also be noted that rural poverty, especially at that time, was much worse than some of the urban areas which were also impoverished, but simply not on the same level. City kids were not isolated and had access to better food, shelter, and education.

For what it is worth, Sony was probably in a percentile below many kids who were the victims of poverty... I simply have to call you out on that one Pep... Stray animals, impoverished kids...THERE SHOULD BE NONE!! Society must bare the responsibility, until we are able to take the purveyors of abject poverty and stop them. Adults are the only hope and they failed Sonny misrably.

Geez thats funny cause when I have turd duty, picking up after my two dogs, I usually have a riveting conversation with Money Man... as he crinkles up (he is a bag after all) and in a deep falsetto screed demands "feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed meeeee!" then the turd is summerily dropped to the sounds of gurgling, digestion, lip smacking and a promise from Money man to spread crap like Johnny Appleseed spread apple seeds.

You know, you guys really could meet in the middle on this... It is documented to an extent (realistically this "extent" would be sans a birthdate for Liston) that Liston's father was abusive and mistreated him. According to Liston he left home for St Louis to live with an aunt because of the father and he could not get food. Somewhere between the "being beaten 25 times a day," and being used "as a mule," lie a truth that Liston was abused... The Hyperbole is just not a legitimate means to convey this, which should also be acknowledged. But in either case: Must we throw the baby out with the bathwater?

To be fair I did not day he was beaten 25 times a day, I said he was one of 25 kids, but yes compromise is good.

I have no idea how to post a video link on here but Rainy Days Boxing YouTube documentary on Liston is absolutely superb.
