Does anyone still think the old time heavyweights were too small to be competitive in the modern era?

No, you can not teach anyone who already knows better. Period.

I tried to use physics to explain this before Usyk was even a HW.

History is not extremely kind to weight division but that doesn't reflect on anything ****** either.

Usyk dominates men who out weigh him by more than the separation of multiple division, no reflection because Fitzs was smaller.

All these excuses are at least getting more and more petulant but that's all we got out of it. They already know better. None of them ever boxed once.

Funny enough this thread is talking about the top heavyweights of each era, not the contenders when comparing them. A troll poster i encountered in NSB kept mentioning contenders as if they matter when discussing different eras. Big or Small are define by the Best Fighters of each era.

An olden-day man can not be compared to a modern man, we progress through generations. We think of how great Jake Paul, the face of boxing is, just wait for his son in 20 years time, it will be a whole other level as an even more next-gen man. Look at all the super bright TikTokers now. They are our future brain surgeons. Nash out - His Excellency

          To answer your question.

Why do you think Usyk added the extra weight to his frame to compete at heavyweight?

Why do you think Michael Moorer,Mike Spinks ,and Evander Holyfield did?
Usyk is porky. Its so obvious hes a small heavyweight. His head is small compared to his body.

but as others said, but Fury is 6 ft 9 281 lbs. hes also exceptionally large.

you have something against the lighter man, but it doesn’t seem to matter when the other guy gets to big.

            Much bigger.
HEAVIER not bigger. Can 255 lb Duran in retirement compete? What about fat Rocky at 255?

              What about 204, like Louis?

not sure how 184 lb Marciano beat Louis but well forget about that.

keep in mind we already know your stance. You love size and steroids. So you think size wins fights. It never does. It didnt last night.

strength can help, but size wonĆƒĀ¢Ć‚Ā€Ć‚Ā™t. Size makes you a big target. Makes you tired and cumbersome. Its always been about ability and other factors. Usyk isnĆƒĀ¢Ć‚Ā€Ć‚Ā™t just smaller than Fury heĆƒĀ¢Ć‚Ā€Ć‚Ā™s stronger and has better stamina. Fury just has weight.

He does weigh more but again, the old school believed in staying lean and mean in order to fight 15-rounds or even longer. I seriously doubt that fat Tyson Fury could go 15, he is already huffing and puffing by round 7 or so.
The crazy thing is you are right about everything but a good portion of posters in this forum keep arguing about this deluded topic. We get evidence every single day.

you can take this a step further and say 208 lb cunningham was tuning Fury in his prime. And cunningham is simple a basic bread and butter fighter - but his light weight gave him speed and agility.

where they get it all wrong is they think if a man comes in lighter he’s smaller. ANYONE can come in lighter. Wilder came in at 212.

it’s how they trained first and foremost. And also no steroids adding the water weight puffy gain.

There is nothing "Porky." about Usyk.
Fury has narrow shoulders and skinny legs,he is tall , but not "exceptionally large",and I have been within a couple of feet of him .

I have nothing against small heavies,my favourite heavy is Dempsey.
Don't tell me what I think you haven't a clue.

Now we are getting where I predicted we would, the next post by you will be tellling us Marciano would be fine fighting today because a man 4 1/2 inches taller and over 40lbs heavier,a man with more speed, and boxing ability has proved it!
                    It's BS!

He could not deal with a big man who could box, which the heavyweight division is full of from 2000-2025.
