AJ won titles won in the ring after Blubber defaulted his ill begotten titles when he should've been serving a drug suspension. AJ won titles off champs who actually won their titles in the Ring. What size BarneyBigBoys was in then?Comment

I think Larry Holmes was considered the "lineal" champion. It just wasn't "linear."
But then again the "linear" chain of champions stopped with either Jeffries, if you accept Burns, or with Tunney if you don't accept Burns.
But the word "lineal" in definition allows for both, interruptions in, and reestablishment of, the linear line.
Thus we use the term lineal.
So by recognition alone I think Holmes met the lineal criteria at some point.Last edited by Willie Pep 229; 09-21-2024, 04:43 PM.Comment

Whatever you say drunky. I'm not the one trying to diminish Johnson because the French vouldnt make up their minds who the champion should or shouldn't be while the rest of the world recognized Johnson.Comment

Holmes met the criteria by him and Norton fighting for the title Ali vacated as the #1and #2 best ranked fighters in the division. He wasn't recognized until he beat Ali in that I'll fated fight for Muhammad. He was and is certainly regarded as a lineal heavyweight champion.Comment

By the way.....Holmes is universally seen as a top 10 ATG heavyweight. In many cases top 5. Einstein.Comment
