I think the answer is yes. Don King always managed to get what he wanted. He would have used the same rhetoric he employed against Cayton to discredit D'Amato, too. With the assistance of Robin Givens, of course.

IQ tests are not the most reliable, though. Look where Tyson is today, both as an entrepreneur and in general as a public figure, in opposition to Holyfield himself, or someone like Bobby Czyz.

Czyz boasted his Mensa membership with a very high IQ. But his life - characterized by several DUI arrests, the loss of his commentator position at Showtime, and bankruptcy after more troubles - proved otherwise.

Ultimately, Tyson paid a price for what he did in his youth, and openly admitted being a poor human being on multiple occasions.

His fans are fully convinced that Mike is a highly intelligent, "misunderstood" sage. Genius is actually a term often given to him when they watch those short Tik Tok style clips of his caveman rants which have some quotes sprinkled in from actual intelligent people.

I guess IQ wouldn't count in their eyes since they themselves probably operate on the same level as him. The bar for 'genius' is set lower than ever in this generation.

I knew the pool story. Tyson has never denied his respect for Evander, that's out of question. Matter of fact, they're now friends.

Yeah, IQ tests are not overall very good screens. Yet surprisingly they are still the best metric of predicting later success. Like I said, not that they are very good.

But verbal jive is a much poorer indicator of something big under the hoodie than IQ tests are. It gets away with being called creativity these days. But not in IQ tests. Verbal questions on tests involve solutions to questions presented in words sometimes about words. Subtle shades of comparison become necessary. Pretty sure Tyson is no IQ genius but has picked up a little civilian savvy and some words along the way.

There are exceptions to every norm otherwise there would be no need for statistics any time. I don't doubt Czyz's IQ. IQ tests cannot measure wisdom or personality flaws.
