Cayton ,it is Cayton, not Clayton knew about as much about boxing as you do,ie Jack ****!. Atlas did the day to day work with Tyson until ,Tyson went off the rails and Atlas walked. HOF Corner MY ASS!

I heard that Gus was the problem with Tyson. He spoiled him turning Tyson's violent ways into entitlement.
Tyson was never disciplined by Gus, he was bought with false affection and a long leash that resulted in Tyson growing into a selfish undisciplined man.

Before he ever met Cus he had been arrested many times and committed some brutal violent crimes(and has admitted he got away with some) might have even murdered elderly people. To rob them he punched them as hard as he could knocking them unconcious. Doing that to an elderly person on a hard surface like a street is pretty much instant death.
That is a truly evil person and I don't care if it was done when he was a kid. It's no surprise he would develop these sex crimes against women. Lets say Cus did 'discipline' him. I don't think that would have worked. He would still show his true nature eventually, in and out of the ring. He would have turned on Cus too.
Atlas was the only one who knew how to correct him. Notice Tyson never pulled anything on him ever again? Just like in the ring, when this bully had someone fighting back to him he crumbled.

What grade was U in then?
1.0 Mike the best heavy in history.
2.0 better than most.
3.0 just a 4rd circus.

Can’t blame him really.

I believe the Teddy Atlas story shows that Tyson was being taught entitlement.
When the Tyson-Atlas 'thing' played out it was Atlas who was cut loose, not Tyson reined in. I think it says much about what Gus was willing to tolerate, or to give up, to have the next HW Champion of the World.
A justified failure I supose.
But as BKM says above, maybe it was inevitable and Gus never had a chance. But I question if he was actually trying or selling out.
Here's an interesting question regarding Tyson's nature vs. Gus's influence: Does Don King steal Tyson away if Gus doesn't die?Last edited by Willie Pep 229; 01-05-2024, 08:56 PM.
