Katz I think use his cane and told Bores where to stick it. One writer who I will not repeat called Katz a beaded frog man is a suit. I no fan of Katz but he is / was a good boxing writer.

He caught Katz with a good left hook before it was broken up.

Undefeated vs crippled, maimed, and preschoolers, what a record!

Borges managed to dodge a good cane swing by Katz

Indeed! Boxing clearly needs more writers fighting.

Not true. It is the single highest honor that can be bestowed upon a professional boxer. Money comes and goes. Fame is fleeting and fans forget. Titles are as easily won and lost in an office as they are in the ring.

I say to all; come to Canastota for inductions week and you will understand it differently.

It is not the Hall of Greatness --- it is the Hall of Fame.

As with all HOFs, it honors those who help make the fight game what it is today. It is a storied history.

Professional prowess is a no brainer for getting a fighter inducted, but it is not an end all.

There are many who helped bring 'fame' without great resumes.

The HOF is a place to honor all those who helped move the fight game forward and should be remembered.

With that said, I'm a Saoul Mamby advocate.

IMHO He was a 'journeyman's journeyman' and should be remembered.

P.S. Maybe he even was what we were earlier calling a 'gatekeeper.' Maybe?

BUT no one in this very weak 2024 HOF class is top drawer, kicked major ass in their time and dominated their timeline. Except for the extremely light punching Ivan Calderon who fought in the straw weight division under 105 pounds.

Just wait until the 2025 boxing HOF class. Judging by the 2024 class, if this is the best boxing can do fans can't wait.
Criteria for inclusion on the ballot is a mixture of accomplishments, perceived skill & talent, scalps, record, public perception, histoical impact; and as such, there is no way to fully extract subjectivity for these selections. In vs. Out is sometimes a protracted discussion between gatherings of selection members.
Gatti, obviously had benefited from the aspect of "public perception", ie. Fan favorite, memorable televised fights, courage; and likely received some added buoyancy from his untimely passing.
McGuigan, and better fighter; needs no explanation of his contributions via the means of "histoical impact".

This is a soft judgment, as selections for all hall of fames are. "Fame" being the operative word; as fame being preceeded by "accomplishment", and accomplishment likewise preceeded by good ol' "skill & talent", is a self driven principle that is assumed.

I have quarrels with some selections and some omittions myself. Several that tick me off a little. But I'm one voice in a sea of voices.

I have no trouble locating several non-ballot fighters in the 130 - 140 sphere who would've kicked Gatti's "Human Highlight" ass on their respective best nights.

But I won't begrudge anyone their day in the sun. And for posters here; if you haven't engaged in a few pro fights yourself, you shouldn't be in the business of denigrating any pro who at least somebody with some knowledge pedigree believes ought to be in.

I do not say Fripo was a bum, but on the other hand there are about go 100 fighters that deserve to go in over him. How many ranked fighters did he beat? What are his hall of fame qualifications? He beat a hall of fame 41 year old Jess Willard when he was 28 who was the unranked at the time. That was Willard's last fight.
