  • How Do Americans Feel About Saudi Being The New Capital Of Big Fights

Just wondered what americans feel about so many big fights seemingly going to the middle east now,
What times do the fights start in the usa? Is it hard to have to watch big fights in the early morning or early afternoon?
Do americans feel it is just not the same if championship fights are no longer in las vegas or atlantic city?
Just let us know your opnions. Does anyone feel that it is wrong to hold fights in saudi arabia due to their human rights record?
How is it weird to watch fights in a time of day strange and not at peak time in the evening.

In the uk we see saudi fights around 10pm to midnight and so more people watch as many wont disrupt their sleep routine for the sake of a fight but will pay the ppv at a regular time in europe and the UK
This forum is mainly made up of americans and I would love to know what the people, especially the old schoolers feel about their nearly 100 year tradition of big fights been staged for their convenience now mainly taking oil money. Does it really piss off us boxing fans?
    Thanks

Boxing is a very easy sport for them to grab a hold of... no overhead organization, different promoters, different networks.

yes that's right kara. I seem to think no other place can offer so much prize money. Even selling out wembley stadium cannot come close to the riches that saudi arabia can offer up.
I wondered how people in the usa feel. What is the time in america when it is 10pm in saudi arabia?
The americans have dominated the agenda for ever and a day and i was used to staying up all night watching it and I would delight in the moment of the night where history was been written for everyone to talk about for years to come.
Now the fight starts about 10pm in the uk, perfect for a great evenings entertainment without getting into peoples sleeping routine. I think that roughly 9pm in saudi arabia is around 1pm in the usa as they are around 8-10 hours behind. I can't imagine as many people in the usa would be tuning into the ppv as they always would in iron mikes era.
I remember in 2002 the soccer world cup was held in south korea and the time difference meant that matches were played at 6am in the morning as pubs were allowed, just for this event, to serve beer and loads of people went to the pub to soak in the atmosphere and it was so surreal to see everyone pissed up at this time in the morning it has never happened since.
It was part of my life as a solid boxing fan to stay up on my sofa with all my snacks and drinks and get into the atmosphere through the tele.
Do you yanks here think that fury vs usyk will sell huge amounts of ppv's or will americans ignore this fight as it is around 1pm on a saturday afternoon?
        Just wondering.

          - - Most Americans don't watch boxing anymore save an odd big fight after the Ks emasculated the heavy division. They do luv to burn up Saudi Oil like no tomorrow.

3rd millennium America has a worse human rights record than the Saudis, but being the BIG Dog who stink don't stink, human rights don't really matter save for the Big Shots who hog all the human rights.

i would not dream of visiting such a place as saudi arabia i'd be beheaded within a week. you cant bring in tramadol, they **** you up for that some 45 years for that, you can't show affection to your girlfriend or you get 75 years after you've been beheaded and you cant drink or be drunk in public as for that you get 125 years before you are beheaded in a stadium as part of the half time entertainment because you bought with you some paracetamol for a headache. the morality police will give me 48 lashings.
the polar opposite of vegas where if your not drunk and high on opiates you will feel like out of place. only kidding.

I am surprised they haven't made a move on horse racing. It started with the Arabs and I can see heritage wise, how they would love to compete and have a champion.

Horse racing like boxing goes where the money is.

Another commonality is that neither is team based. They only need to seduce a few individual stars to kick off the effort, e.g. professional golf.

If their next move isn't thoroughbred horse racing (which I think is coming) then they just might go after basketball.

While it is a team sport the numbers are the smallest and a few stars can carry a game, even a league.

Also we have an abundant number of B-ball players who are very good but don't have a AAA league to play in.

Plus the game has already taken on an international fan base.

To directly answer the OP question. Americans receive their entertainment off audio-visual technology. Where the event is actually happening has become less important, if important at all. So long as it entertains Americans will watch.

As long as they make the big fights I don't care. I atually like the UK ones starting at 2-3 my time. And Japan at 7 am while drinking coffee also.

I believe all Saudi (internationally televised) sporting events will start prime time, EST in America. **

Until a bigger market ($ wise) than 'east of the Mississippi America,' appears they will adjust all start times to please us.

Everyone goes where the money is.

P.S. That us is us, the U.S.A. - not you monarchists across the pond. "Up the rebels."

** Golf is a problem. Can't play golf under the lights or indoors. Then again maybe the Saudi will build an indoor golf course. Why not?

yeah you yanks have them fighting at 4 am in the night so you lot can watch at a great evening time.
Ali vs foreman was in the night like 3am congo time for the usa audiences.
I enjoy staying up for a huge heavyweight fight and have loads of snacks and love all the build up and the ring walks i enjoy it all.
I am accustomed to doing this for a huge fight.

this tyson vs spinks fight was one of my favorite nights. i was about 13 years old and i still remember every one saying how tyson was just unbeatable.
I'd so love for fury to bomb usyk out early like that just use all his size and strength and destroy him. then he would definitely by voted the greatest.
