How did Norton make it to the top level with no chin?

Listen up. Norton has the same problems that most heavyweight have. That is his chin is suspect to legit punchers, guys who hit on a 1-10 scale say an 8 or better.
Ali, Holmes, Quarry, Stander, Kirkman, Bobbick, and Cobb and solid hitters who hit on the 1-10 scale say between a 6 or 7.
But Shavers and Foreman hit a 10 on the 1-10 scale. They do.
My $.02 I watch and know a lot about 1970's boxing.Comment

AJ and Wlad two of the top heavies in history excellent representatives of the new super sized heavies that cause El Puerco hijo de Jose to create the WBC Brigitte Weight Belt.Comment

He couldn't last one round with guys who had true power (Foreman, Shavers, Cooney). I always thought top boxing was darwinism when it came to chin endurance - if you don't have it, you won't survive to be there..
But Norton obviously had no resilience to big shots. Unless you guys can name a huge puncher he could hang with..
Are there so few big hitters that you can reach top 5 without ever having to meet one?Comment

Well, wasn't it said that Roy Jones' chin wasn't that good when he finally got caught with a good shot and knocked out? And Wlad was a long reigning champ with a weak chin, at least most of his career. So I guess it can be done by protecting one's chin (which IS what fighters are trained to do, after all) and possibly having a few easy opponents on the way up? Not sure about Norton exactly, but I know Wlad didn't fight in a strong heavyweight era.
