Of course we must also remember Greb wasn’t even at his peak even in the first fight, he was already down an eye by the time he fought Tunney. Furthermore, the second bout, with Tunney grown up and filled out - Greb still should have won, but he was getting pts taken off for fouling, but in the first fight they let it slide more. As for the 3-4–5th fights, Greb is certainly declining, and Tunney has improved. Tunney really worked on Grebs body a lot, noting Grebs head movement. Greb also slapped Dempsey around twice in sparring. The second time his trainers said no more Greb, he’s too good. Although Dempsey wanted a fight with Greb. Greb sounds like an absolute animal of a fighter, based on his resume - and we can see his opponent’s on film. His style was unique and you couldn’t prepare for his style. Greb also rarely trained out side of sparring and fighting constantly (300 fights and died early 30s) AND known for his legendary stamina and late round rallies

As much as I do not like Klompton, nor he me,I think it fair to say he probably knows more about Geb than anyone living .
Klomptons book on Greb is a master work of research. Great book. But the author is a sad and bad man. His responses on ESB to anyone who disagrees with him are over the top. And his hatred of Dempsey is legendary....yet he's writing a book about the Manassa Mauler! Adam Pollack is a much more reasonable and respected poster.

I've read about 3 fight reports of their 5 th and last fight.Tunney gave Greb quite a beating ,none of the reports indicate Tunney eased off in the latter stages of the fight, or that Tunney slowed down his attack , all of them state Tunney was hammering Greb's body up to the last bell,That doesn't sound like a carry job to me.

For sure, and the fact that Greb thought he was going to die would be another indicator. He suffered a terrible beating and was a Tunney supporter from the very first fight, even the one which is dished out a severe beating on Tunney. He said “No matter how bad you beat Tunney, he never once thought about quitting”.
