RARE! Ezzard Charles Interview, Rocky Marciano & Jersey Joe Walcott on TV-Show 1954 - YouTube

Jersey Joe puts some calumny to rest when he states that Rocky was a good, clean fighter. I guess Joe should know. Rock's reputation for sportsmanship is restored.

I don't believe Rocky was ever intentionally dirty.

His style was dirty. Plenty of elbows. He also hit Walcott after he was down.

Dirty without doubt ,but not intentionally so,imo . Apart from his feet Walcott did not have any part of his body on the canvas,so, as per the rules he was NOT down.
****ell on the other hand definitely was down when Marciano hit him.

It was his style that was dirty. It was the way he fought. I don't know how you can say that's not intentional?

That late touch to Walcott was no more than a pat on the butt for a job well done, a sign of respect. It couldn't hurt my grandmother. Nobody ever made a big deal out of it, because it wasn't one. That is what they would have had to do: Make a big deal out of it, because it wasn't one by itself.

I thought if the ropes held you up you were down.

Not that there anything to call foul, just the flow of the exchange along with Walcott's akward positioning on the ropes and his slow descent.

IMO Most fighters in that situation throw at least one more punch. SRL would have let loose with a flurry just to make sure it was stopped.
