Was Hearns v SRL the greatest possible fight that could've been made IRL?

Duran was the champion and didn't have to sign when he did. I love Duran, but if he wasn't ready he had no one to blame but himself.
He had to sign.
No fighter gets to make his decisions in a vacuum. We just find it easy to blame or praise fighters when it is almost always a group decision. With fighters usually having unwritten obligations to those people who believed in him.Last edited by Willie Pep 229; 06-10-2023, 03:35 PM.

He certainly didn't have to eat himself out of shape, did he? Do you think his camp expected Leonard to want an immediate rematch? I do. These people aren't ******.Originally posted by Willie Pep 229 View Post

I wasn't offering an excuse for his behavior; Leonard/Trainer played Duran beautifully. I was just saying, when the time came he had to sign.Originally posted by JAB5239 View Post

Ray knew he get whooped in the trilogy just like he knew Marv would knock him out in the rematch, and so lost a lot of credibility with fight fans like me for not making those bouts. He was forced by mandatory to fight Duran the first time.
Had the mark of Lewie on him, he did.

Duran quit, even his manager said so. And you're telling me Ray Leonard, with his huge ego said Marvin would knock him out if they rematched? I don't believe you. What page was it on he said this? You claimed it, now prove it.Originally posted by QueensburyRules View Post

Since you have yet to understand boxing timelines, you don't understand the Marv fight took place ages after then, and I never said Ray said Marv would KO him, YOU DID...duh...
I stated Ray knew Marv KOs him in the rematch, hence him ducking the biggest $$$ fight in boxing that could be made in that timeline, the immediate rematch. I among many others completely ditched Ray as a fighter of any honor because of the way he was jerking around honorable boxers and boxing fans.
