For me he is not. His best wins are blown up welters. He hid out at 160 to pad his record and break Monzon’s title defense record while avoiding the dangerous fights at 168 while Jones was still king.

Who do you think Monzon's best wins were? His record seems a lot like Hopkins though I do rate it better. We could probably say he hid out at middleweight to avoid Bob Foster. I'm not saying I think Hops was a better middleweight, there are just similarities.

I've never been a fan of Monzon and I'm called crazy for considering him overrated as well. Not to say he wasn't a good fighter, but his first 80 fights were all against Argentineans of questionable pedigree, and his best win was Griffith who was best as a welter. Griffith was already starting to fade by the time he fought Monzon. Napoles was washed up. If we look at Valdez, he never fought or beat a great fighter in his career, his best win was Briscoe. In a head to head fight I still might favor Monzon over Hopkins at 160.

Hopkins beat a bunch of small guys and B fighters. Even the smaller fighters were washed up. He tried to get out of fights by pretending to be fouled Even if I take Toney and Nunn out, Hop is only about #19.
