Height and reach and weight DO matter in any rules fight, as do a list of other things (!). Mass is an important one, hence the need for weight classes in sport fighting. Until....you reach "the dufus threshold ". Thats when superior height, weight deliver diminishing returns and the presumed disadvantages in speed, snap, maneuverability, stamina, technique execution, etc. Begin to overtake the bigger bulk in terms of their respective influence on the outcome. The divergence of how post 1900 iterations of team sports developed and how boxing science has developed along very, very different time frames is a more complex discussion.
Can you agree with me here, or are you the type that says Joe Louis who was embarrassed by sub 200 pound men several times in defeat and victory would not struggle more with Super heavyweights would can move, jab ,and pretty much all hit harder then the men who embarrassed him?

Yes, they do matter! Size, height, and reach do matter. Boxing has weight classes for a reason. But the heavyweight division used to be ruled ( 1908-1963 ) by small men 190-210 pounds ) the type that are not active today @ heavyweight. Why? Why don't we see this today? Obvisouly the size and skilled level is too much for them. Otherwise you would men this size / dimensions for the big money at heavyweight. Yet certain people refuse to admit this, at least publicly.

Can you explain how Louis embarrassed several superheavyweights as well as heavyweights weighing more than 210? And please don't say they were less skilled. That simply isn't true. The fact that Vits and Carnera have the exact same fighting style and stance should be very telling.
He ( Louis ) beat no hoppers. And none of these big men super heavyweight size were Eastern European or African American. You know the super heavyweight that are mostly on top of the boxing world today. Now can you answer my question instead of telling me that Byrd beat Vitali with an injured shoulder? Trust me I know that. This is old news.
Carnera was faded when Louis beat him by the way.
Now once again, Can you agree with me here that Joe Louis who was embarrassed by sub 200 pound men several times in defeat and victory would struggle more with Super heavyweights would can move, jab ,and pretty much all hit harder then the men who embarrassed him?Last edited by Dr. Z; 03-09-2023, 09:22 AM.Comment

You DID NOT answer my question, but I'll answer your. Yes, Louis beat the lowly ranked big men of his time. Please check their ring magazine raking or national boxing association ranking WHEN Louis fought them.

Simon was no 4 in 41
Carnera was no2 in 35. Would they have been better if they were?
Were there any supersized heavies that fit that category that were ranked that he avoided? ****** criteria !
More Louis bashing from you!Comment
