Any thoughts about this KO by Musular 1940's Super Heavyweight "Skysc****r" Abe Simon?

- - Why would I ever watch a ****** Hollywood movie on legendary boxers when I already know the stories?
Ali had at least two movies made of him, and I saw the scene of one being filmed, and what a hogwash that was.
Hollywood soils everything historical they touch. Simon like Primo and Valuev most notably was diagnosed with Acromegaly.

Dalip Singh Rana, "The Great Khali" 7'3" 410. Big mitts good for the game, but that chin would be impossible to miss for anyone!!!Comment

I always wondered what he did to merit a rematch with Louis for the title. Prior to the rematch he lost to a journeyman by TKO, and fought to a draw with another C level fighter. He looked utterly hopeless in the rematch, slow, defenseless, and nothing to fight back with besides his willingness to take punishment.Comment

It's sad how full of crap you are. On those topic I don't know either way, but I will look into it. You, you make claims and never support them only to be found out a liar more times than not.Comment

Louis was already in uniform and ready for deployment. Secretary of War Stinson was being pressured from two sides, Uncle Mike Jacobs and Truman Gibson on one side, (promising they could clear up Louis's tax problem plus raise big money for the war relief) while on the other side, Southern Senators who were on the floor of Congress asking why "certain people" were being given special tax treatment, while others were expected to drop everything and serve their country.
In short Truman Gibson and Uncke Mike needed to make the fight quickly for fear of Stinson caving in to the political pressure. (Stinson would in fact cave to the political pressure just four days before the third attempt, an October 1942 rematch with Billy Conn. A fight that might actually have gotten Louis and Conn out of tax trouble.)
From there I can only guess, but the Simon fight was in MSG and it just may be as simple as Abe Simon a local NY boy was ready and willing to go.
The fights weren't big draws and everyone wanted the Conn rematch anyway. So it probably didn't matter what stiff they put in front of Louis for either of the 1942 defenses. Both fights in the crowd's mind were begging to be disrespected as merely charity fights anyway.Last edited by Willie Pep 229; 10-22-2022, 11:19 AM.Comment

I want to add to my earlier post. I am not certain but it seems that Simon didn't get paid for the fight either with his purse going to the Army Relief fund as well.
I think he deserves a nod for the punishment he took, he could have given the audience a couple of rounds and then looked for a soft spot to sit down. A few have done that. Instead he got up from two KDs and still kept coming. --> Louis could hurt a man.
With no purse coming he was literally fighting for the HW Campionship. I think we should not focus on it as an 'unworthy shot at the title' --> but give him the credit for stepping up when called on.

A couple of factors may have opened the door for the rematch.
