It might interest you to know that Jeffries has a reported win over Martin to likely when they we starting out. KO 1. Show me in print a story where Jeffries is quoted saying said he could beat Jack Johnson in his prime. Not some guy saying it, its here say. Open challenge. He never said that in print. Munroe fought in over 20 exhibitions in '04 before fighting Jeffries. Some people here would argue those were real fights.

Exhibitions can be really hard to discern back then. Sometimes they would really go at, other times not.

There is footage of a Dempsey exhibition against some guy who personally insulted him. It looks like he wants to kill the guy.

Ever watch the SRR v Willie Pep exhibition. Pep is trying to turn it into a fist fight and SRR won't go along.

I have not been following this conversation so I'm not sure of your intent but if the guy had 20 exhibitions and they were only just exhibitions one could still argue that should be enough preparation to take on a real fight at the end of the year.

That's one of the many ongoing debates here that can never truly be resolved. Some exhibitions fighters went after it, particularly if they didn't like one another, while others were more or less sparring sessions to earn a paycheck and promote fighters. Keep them busy while promoters can also get their end of the take.

Please explain Jeffries fighting Hank Griffin, a back man while champion in 1901. If Hank knocked him out, he's the next lineal champion! But as it was Jeffries floored him twice and Griffin did nothing but survive the fight. The very same Griffin beat Jack Johnson one time over 20 rounds and drew with him twice! Johnson has lots of 3,4, and 6 rounders on his resume. He even kept his colored title while low blowing Jeanette in two rounds in a DQ loss! Explain the above FACTS. Calling you out. Bullshlt. He admit that he could have never beat Johnson, just like I said. Never offered Johnson a chance at his title or he would have fought him before going into retirement.
