Cliff knows what he’s doing for sure. He never liked Solis though. Always saw him as a fat underachiever. I thought Solis would end up as a real force.

    Cliff got it right lol.

I did a thread on this a long time ago. His brother is the one who cleaned out the division. While Vits may have been the tougher brother, he wasn't nearly as accomplished against top 10 fighters.
Cliff Rold has him at 7-2, I have him at 8-2 vs ring magazine top ten fighters.

I didn't keep them that I know of. I used to type over them as it was a page that updated.

That is correct. I had him at ten when I did my own rankings at the site. Those weren't what we're talking about.

Ring Magazine does have a delay though, so maybe a few issues after the fight have to be pulled?
Factored that in when I double checked. The rankings have an as of date. The fight result is covered and factored into the rankings in the June 2011 cover date issue. The six issues prior...no Solis. Unless he slipped in online during the few weeks between issues, there is no evidence Solis was ranked in the magazine's print form before 2013.

        Because it's not there.

I get really granular sometimes and that can mean missed details. I'm only human. That said, I have the physical issues. Ain't there.

And with that, we've all spent more effort on Solis than he appeared to spend on his efforts as a professional so let's move on.

I think you missed Solis name while putting together a giant " master piece " of work. Seriously the effort in researching 100's of fights is fantastic. Missing one name doesn't take away from the work done. Check the monthly Ring Magazine ratings before the fight and during it. They fought in March 2011 so look for Soils name in Ring Magazine issues in February, March, and April. DO NOT CHECK IN JUNE! Vitali had already beaten him in March 2011 and Soils slide out of the rankings by then. It has noting to due on where you care for Solis or not. I'm trying to help you on an oversight. So check the months I suggested. I'm fairly certain he was ranked 9th by Ring Magazine when they fought.

          I'll send you a PM.

          Regards

          Dr. Z.

          • - - AKA the mystery of Solis!

He had that middle eastern type promoter as I seem to recall always making usual suspect fights whilst claiming Vit ducking him. Plus he preceded Ortiz as a legit Gold Medalist Hvy Champ titlest, maybe the first big name Cubanos had to cheer about in modern boxing.

At any rate, Vit disposed of him with an Ali Phantom Righthand in such a discombobulated fashion that was beyond the comprehension of most fans and certainly contrary to what Cubano fans expected, so it's one of Vit's greatest wins.

Solis as one of any top level fighters greatest wins is nothing to brag about.

No is isn't. But Soils was the olympic champion / and world champion as an amateur heavy weight, an undefeated heavy professional and a top ten ring magazine top then heavyweight, so it's a solid win but not among Vital's best 5.

If Soils was around today, as an undefeated fighter with those amateur credentials ( And he was 30. ) Fury or Wilder would not fight him. Usyk however will.

                  Sanders
                  Peter
                  Adamek
                  Hide
                  and K Johnson

They were all better wins in my opinion.

                    A very pedestrian Ray Austin.

Amateur success doesn't always translate into professional success. Solis and many other Olympic champions are proof of this. As I said to Ivich, Ray Austin was his best win. Had he gone one to be a fixture in the top 10 I would call him a solid win. As it stands his career, judging by top level boxing standards, was a disappointment.

I agree with your top five for Vits, but not necessarily in that order.
