All that gibberish and you are wrong. The article clearly states at the top “Johnson knocked out”! Smith has been consistent over the course of his lifetime that he knocked Johnson down during a sparring match. Through the ropes in several accounts.

You go through great lengths to defend Johnson at all costs, to the point it seems you have an unhealthy fetish with him. Again you go off on these desperate tangents to throw up smoke screens. Now you want to bring Marciano into the fray when all you have to do is admit you were wrong for once in your life. The article headline clearly states knocked out, which is all Dr. Z said. While the headline is wrong (where have we heard that newspapers get it wrong?…ahem!), Dr. Z does not say Johnson was knocked out in his title or post, he is merely posting what the article printed.

Johnson according to the newspapers I posted,[ verified in Pollacks book] went 4rds with Smith,he then went 2 rds with another sparring partner,2 rds with another.2 rds with another2 rds with another and a further 2 rds with another! I named these men in my earlier post.
So lets say Smith knocked Johnson down,it happens, Johnso finished the 4 rdsand went a further 10 rds with5 more sparring partners. so how badly was he hurt?

We know Smith was a big puncher,if his account of the spar is correct and it well may be,how unprofessional of him to swing a haymaker with all his power behind it in a spar?

If Johnson had gone to town on Smith and beaten him up you along with DR Z would be screaming about what a rotten thing that was to do!
FYI DRZ/Mendoza has posted threads about this trivial incident dozens of times on the Classic Forum until everyone got heartily sick of it.He variously claimed Johnson was knocked woozy,rescued by his manager,out to the world and its all so much BS

It's not inconsequential to note that if Johnson were out fought, caught flush, TKOd or knocked spark out alltogether in one of his spars with Smith....it's no big deal. Marciano, bless his soul; was the only modern WHC to retire unbeaten as a pro; but was decapitated in a plane crash. So much for human invincibility. It doesn't exist in this world.
