    Earnie Shavers...R.I. P.

--- Being reported he passed today, the day after his Birthday Wednesday, one of my and fans most beloved fighters.

Earnie came to fight without an ounce of Fancy Dan in his fiber. Sadly we never met, but clearly he was quite beloved in retirement. Never seen Ali beat up as bad as Earnie did who earned that decision, but such are the fates of contenders rising out of the backwaters.

A much better fighter than give credit for. He's known for his power, but his abilities to set those punches up are often overlooked. RIP.

RIP Champ! The Acorn... Beloved to those who knew of his legacy. Say hello to Lyle, another stand out. What a tremendous puncher! And had a heart bigger than his punch.

Shavers was an early favorite of mine. I haven't scored his fight with Ali in a long time, but remember it being close. A thunderous puncher with a good reach ( 79 " ) he KO'd Norton, Young R. Willams, and Ellis. Good names. He nearly Ko'd Ron Lyle, and gave Holmes a scare with a real chin checker. The force of the blow literally threw Holmes down or the canvas. I don't know how Holmes up.

Shavers had a tendency to out, and has issues with cuts. He is my top 100 heavyweights.

              RIP

Dude, if he hits virtually anybody else alive with that shot he cracked Larry Holmes with, he not becomes heavyweight champion, but he also kills them.

It's crazy how boxing works like that, where one punch could be the difference between dying broke and dying a millionaire with your kids being millionaires.
