GOAT is an acronym for "greatest", meaning most accomplished, something Floyd can't claim to be.
He made the most money, so you could argue he's the smartest.
He was undefeated in an era where A-side fighters could pick their opponents and not take risks if they didn't want to.
He never fought outside of America or even outside of Las Vegas for the last decade of his career.
He always made sure everything was in his favor, especially post-OscarComment

A man had to be on his way out before Mayweather would think about fighting him. He never fought people as early as he should have, waiting for them to fade, while his defensive style preserved him better. Hoya was finished, Judah was getting along, already demoralized by Tszyu. Mosley had been smashed to pieces twice by Forrest by the time lil' Floyd got to him, and manhandled twice by Winky Wright, and beaten by Cotto, whereas he could have had Mosley when Shane was much more dangerous as a lightweight. About the only fighter Floyd fought when he should have was Chico, and I was shocked at how much smaller Chico was. Mayweather beat the diminutive fellow easily.

I still feel Mayweather would of beaten a prime Pacquaio albeit the fight would of been closer and probably a lot more exciting. Johnny Nelson the ex boxer now turned Sky boxing pundit said something that always struck with me. Was asked who would win in a fight between a prime Floyd Mayweather Jr v a prime Manny Pacquaio.His response straight away Mayweather no question ,without doubts.Comment

Yes, maybe.
But look at it this way: Mayweather's defensive style preserved him better, therefore he did not fall as far as Pacquiao in the six years between when they should have fought and when they actually did fight. Therefore Pacquiao has more to get back out of those six years than Floyd does. That makes it even closer. But if I had to bet my house, I would still have to go with MW.

My favourite boxer ever and I feel the greatest ever pound for pound is Sugar Ray Robinson . I dont think Floyd Mayweather Jr was the greatest ever. The forum user The D3vil made some very valid points earlier in this thread about this. Likewise I just wish that Manny Pacquaio v Floyd Mayweather Jr was made when they were in their prime as opposed to over the hill a bit.
I think special mentions must also go to the likes of Marvin Hagler and Oleksandr Usyk and even Floyd Mayweather Jr for their professionalism(getting into boxing more from a causal fan to a more serious fan so apologies if I left some fighters out. Still learning the history of the sport) . I always admire those in sport who sacrifice things for a greater cause eg maximising their God given ability.
