  • Crawford- Spence against History

Its is a brilliant match-up that must and should happen. Welterweight unification is fun. My question for discussion is this:

How does Crawford vs. Spence compare to Leonard vs. Hearns I and DeLaHoya vs. Trinidad in terms of........anything. Potential excitement, historical importance, quality of the combatants........

I think that it can be mentioned in the same breath given the P4P status of the two, IF they both go all out and turn in their respective best career performances.

I give them the same status as the other great welterweight contests. Hopefully this one looks more like Leonard/Hearns and less like De La Hoya/Trinidad. I remember the hype prior to Oscar/Tito, the build up to that fight was similar to Mayweather/Pacquiao. Had Oscar not coasted those last few rounds he would have won. The fight itself didn't live up to the hype.

Crawford and Spence are evenly matched in terms of size, power, age, and both are undefeated champions. This is the fight I'm most looking forward to, and I can only hope it delivers.

Me too!!! I hope also that through imaginative promotion and build up investment that it can come at least a little close to the other two mentioned. The massive casual fan, non fan reach of Leonard-Hearns, which was just everywhere, isn't on the table; but this one deserves attention.

I care less every day. As far as I am concerned they already passed their expiration date. Crowford is what--34 years old? I will not buy it, and that is a promise. Crowford hasn't really fought anyone but insists he is the A-side. I have seen all this before. It does not interest me. I couldn't care less about their words and antics. They should have fought at least four years ago. It makes no difference to me now if they even fight. I promise that.

I get that. I hate delays that kill the fanbase. The life was almost drained out of Pac-Mayweather. Why couldn't Fury-Wilder-Joshua looped all around like Ali-Frazier-Foreman+Norton in the 70's. Huge opportunity (almost) lost there. Lost of examples. Greedy Promoters, networks, Sanctioning Bodies and all that. Conteth vs. Galidez would've been epic if it was picked when ripe. You don't have long to make it happen. I digress.

It's a great fight for sure. But for me it doesn't have that feel these others that have been named did. It feels more like the lead up to Curry vs McCrory. Hopefully it's more like Leonard-Hearns than Curry's 2 round blowout of McCrory.

It’s probably the most anticipated matchup right now; just as much potential as those two examples you gave. I wasn’t originally going to bet that we’d get this fight this year. But now I dare to hope that after several more months of waiting, we get an announcement for Spence vs Crawford anywhere from November 2022 to January 2023 at the latest.
Let’s hope nothing unexpected gets in the way this time.

There is just not the same fanbase. This fight should be monumental, but the fanbase just does not support the special fights. This is the hardest division in boxing... that should also mean something.

                  - - May-Pac was DOA thanks to l'l floydy. Incompetent/Crook Commish and drugtesting to boot. Boxing would be embarrassed but for being too preoccupied with being shameless.

Spence don't need Craw is the bottom line unless Craw mans up to 40%.

Both have large hometown backings. Will sell out whatever venue they stage this contest in.
