  • Ukraine, Klitschko’s, appreciation

In these historic times where Ukraine stands alone against a brutal invader two boxing icons are becoming icons of freedom as symbols of freedom fighting against oppression.

As members of the boxing community we salute Vitali Klitschko who as mayor of the Ukrainian capitol of Kiev is a leading icon along with president Zelenski, former President Poroschenko Vitalis brother and former world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko who returned to Ukraine to fight against the invaders.

At boxingscene we may disagree about a lot of things. This is beyond that. This is about boxers putting their life on the line for a larger cause. This is about role models, icons and heros.

Kudos to both Klitscko's for standing up and fighting for their country. Also to Usyk for going back to the Ukraine when he could have stayed safely in Britain.

I didn’t know that about Usyk. This thread is about him also then.

I don't know if this is the best course of action(though it could be propaganda that they are actually on the battle fields) for people of their stature. Athletes have had a different role in the army for a long time.

              - - The adoption of Democracy for a peoples ain't for Pollyannas. Often it's ugly and uncertain and requires a level of civilization and compromise beyon the abilities of many voters. It's most certainly debatable in the US whereby the adoption of near 200 yrs of a bipolar 2 party system controlling the election process has yielded us the massed killing fields of the Civil War and too many needlessly dangerous foreign wars in the 3rd millennium. The US has become a bipolar 2 party Gerontocracy rather than a Democracy practiced by a nascent Republic in our uncertain beginnings.

Always rated the Brothers high in the boxing echelon and humanitarian echelon, so with some prayers and luck both will emerge wiser for the experience and better poised to continue international humanitarian efforts.

I just read that Lomachenko is back to defend Ukraine also.

The fighting spirit of the Ukrainians is admirable.

***** will be somewhat apprehensive about killing noted prople, but if all these guys make it out alive it will be a blessing.

The Russians have portable crematoriums with them; it looks like ***** has no intention of leaving behind a body count for the Western media to play off of . . . But disappearing notables gets noticed. ***** won't like that.

One gets the feeling ***** read Orwell and thinks O'Brien is the hero.

                    - - Loma in training accused of being a slacker seems to have returned for PR purposes. How about his pop?

Viktor Postol shafted in his Vegas fight vs Groundhog Gary Russell Jr's younger brother with a his first stoppage career loss with 29 sec left on the clock with Viktor holding out his WTF arm stance. Ref Mike Ortega preserves the younger Russell KO streak to wide disdain by fight fans knowing a BS stoppage when they see it. Don't know if he even lives in Ukraine any more or if he'll return.

At any rate, Rus/Ukr delegates to be meeting to call a halt to the preceedings with Russia getting it's No NATO in Ukraine re-guarantee from their original agreement that Ukraine appeared straying from.

Dunno. When I was a kid, I just assumed folks would be a lot smarter and more advanced than now instead of the obvious regression of the 3rd millennium.

Well, there's always hope by the 4 millennium
