Something Mosley And Max Schmeling Have In Common

Schmeling screaming.
"After only a few seconds of feinting, Louis unleashed a tireless barrage on Schmeling. Referee Arthur Donovan stopped action for the first time just over one minute and a half into the fight after Louis connected on five left hooks and a body blow to Schmeling's lower left which had him audibly crying in pain."
Source--Google.
Another vicious body punch was Jones vs Hill. Don't remember if Hill cried out, but he dropped in visible pain.Comment

That was an illegal kidney punch - it was on the back side of the line drawn done the middle of the trunks. Jones should have been DQ but for HBO.
In Willard-Dempsey both fighters agreed that a kidney punche was not boxing.Last edited by Willie Pep 229; 02-26-2022, 05:56 PM.Comment

I disagree. That was a perfectly placed punch that if I remember correctly broke Hill's rib.

Another fighter who often threw body shots that were in reality kidney shots was none other than Sugar Ray Robinson. He was even disqualified once in Germany for this.
It may be partially a natural result of having a positive AI (ape index), the same way that Tyson Fury's punches to the ear are the result of extraordinarily long arms that have already bent practically as far as they could just to barely make the punch legal.Last edited by The Old LefHook; 02-26-2022, 06:31 PM.Comment

You can see how Willard would be concerned that with the shorter (crouch style) Dempsey, Willard blows would land (unintentally) on the back of Dempsey's head.
