This got no traction over on the Non-Stop Boxing board. Zero. Nothing. I don't hold much hope it will get any here either, but I'm hoping that someone or two might tell me why? I'll be honest, I'm getting deep into old age, and there is always ALWAYS the possibility that...you know..I've lost it.
So, is this just boring or what?.......
Link me if this has been done before recently, and ignore me if the topic bores you. No worries.
The International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, NY (and the smaller West Coast World Boxing Hall of Fame in Riverside, CA) have running ballots that return each year. Candidates for election are retained on the ballot once they appear there and new candidates are added every year. In Canastota, members of the BWAA and an international panel of boxing historians will then vote for individuals for Hall of Fame induction from names entered in the ballot.
The Three who receive the most votes plus anyone receiving votes from 80% of voting members are elected to the Boxing Hall of Fame.
Inclusion on that ballot itself is obtained through a secondary annual election with those receiving enough votes appearing on the following year's official ballot, and new ballots are mailed out each October1st.
We can have a running ballot here too.
You can SEARCH HERE to check of your candidates are already in the IBHOF:
http://www.ibhof.com/pages/about/ind...cteeindex.html
To qualify, a fighter must be retired for five years.
You can make a case for your pick, or just supply the name. You can pick just one, or one for each IBHOF caragoty as follows:
Modern. - Last bout no earlier than 1989 to 2017
Old-Timer - Early - 1892 - Last bout before 1942
Old-Timer - Late - 1943 - Last bout before 1988
Pioneer - Last bout in or prior to 1892
Woman - Any era Trailblazers or Modern
Observer - (Journalists, historians, writers, artists)
Non-Participant (Trainers, Promoters, contributions apart from roles as boxers or observers)
Maybe we might avoid posting our full lists in case (in the unlikely event) others want to participate by posting their personal favorites, at least until a few pages have filled up (An optimist?).
I'm willing to bet that posters here could come up with a GREAT list of fighers and others who deserve the honor or being remembered.
My picks, to start the Boxing Scene Forums IBHOF Ballot:
Modern: Pongsaklek Wonjongkam
Old Timer Early: Lou Bogash
Old Timer Late: Ceferino Garcia
Pioneer: Jacob Hyer
Observer: Herbert G. Goldman (Writer/Historian)
Non-Participant: Frederick "Pee Wee" Beale (Trainer)
Woman: Cathy "Cat" Davis
.....Please, have at it!
