Your ESPN says the WBC is moving to roll back cruiser to the original 190lbs, leaving 10 lbs floating in space with no accountability, but I see no indication they have done so.

Now, could be El Puerco Para Vida will make a special dispensation of 190lbs for this fight. The whole scenario is preposterous as Makabu has an upcoming fight he could lose and would no longer be the title holder. I'll wait and see, but ain't holding my breath.
10 lb floating weight. Junior Cruiserweight division or.... maybe a return to the 200 lb limit after Canelo fights for the title. One of these days Canelo is going to bite off more than he can chew with that 5 foot 8 frame. Trying to be another Dwight Qawi ?What's next should he win? A catchweight fight with Usyk ? Tubby Fury is simply too big.

To me it seems like the WBC is trying to give him another title instead of making him earn the right. This happened when he fought Kovelov instead of Beterbiev at 175 with no previous fights there. How often has this happened in history and do you agree with this practice? Guys like Greb, Conn, Charles, and Foster all had fights in heavier divisions before being given either their shot or acceptance at a new weight. Is a new page in history being turned or is this just more ABC org home cooking?
WBC is justifying it with that Franchise Champion has perks crap.

Khan fought Canelo. Brook fought GGG. Who cares. I don't read headlines. I watch fights.

          - -Makabu @WBC convention where he posed with Canelo, “Canelo is the best boxer on the planet right now. So, I want to fight the best, and I accept, but there will be no catchweight for this fight. Canelo wants to prove to people that he can do better than others and I am quite prepared to let Canelo try for this dream, but I`ve got my also story to write down. Yes, this is boxing. I lost to Tony Bellew, but I came back. Now I`m telling you one hundred percent, I will knock out Canelo.”

There is no catch weight. As reported by ESPN and Yahoo news the WBC is reducing the Cruiserweight limit back to 190. He'll either have to cut weight or move on from his title.

The cruiserweight limit is 200 pounds, but the WBC recently introduced an 18th weight class -- bridgerweight -- with a limit of 224 pounds. In a corresponding move, the Mexico-based organization is reducing the cruiserweight limit to 190 pounds, the same weight when the division was introduced in 1979, before it was increased by 10 pounds in 2004.

And this makes no sense to do this. The weight was split almost evenly between lightheavy and bridgerweight. Why the move to change it now? This doesn't seem suspect to anyone else?

                - -Makes more sense that WBC ain't done it yet and Makabu says he won't do it.

U back to hammering square pegs in round holes again, is it?

I don't want to turn this into another Dempsey-Wills thread as we have done that to death around here. My point is popularity isn't the end all. At least not to me. Maybe I'm old fashioned in that sense. And yes....we're just having a debate. I've got noting but respect whether I agree or disagree with you.
So listening to some posters here who can be brilliant about this issue I learned a few things.

Ef Panda made the comment that boxing turning into a league, is not a good thing. It would not be a good look. So when we overregulate we risk making something designed for one purpose and audience, into a fascimile of something it is not really what it is intended to be (my comment). I say this because I would love things like 9 judges, alternating rounds with slo mo shown of the previous round, so judges could get things right... a system where mandatories are the best fighter challenging the champ, etc. But Ef Panda's comment makes sense. Boxing is essentially an entertainement venue with fighters needing ways to promote their fights to a public...

What we need to me is any way the best fighters can have a presence and the fans can act on their behalf to get decent fights get made. Including when fighters are coming up the ladder so to speak and making noise to be the next best.
