Can't blame Page for what occured and if both fighters were fighting at the 3:40 mark and YOU CAN'T prove it was a deleberate setup, i.e. Page was winning the round big and the timekeeper diberaretly let the round go, if that IS NOT the case and the mistake was honest then I would say let the outcome stand. BUT I would think an auto-rematch should have occured.
On the flip side.....when the bell should have rung Coetzee was not in trouble. By not ringing the be when he was supposed to cost Gerry his WBA trinket. We can't say he would JJ ave won or lost had it rung on time which is why I believe a NC and immediate rematch would be the right decision. I'm not saying I can't be swayed to see it another way, I'm just looking for good enough reasons to see it that way.

I think so long as the events are not manipulated and are honest mistakes then the play on the field or in the ring should stand.
        - -Stopped watching the nfl two decades ago, but they used to review video footage and overturn any ill gotten gains on a regular basis, ie near every game. 40 sec extension an outrageous violation of the rules, so if the rules are not to be followed, eliminate them so we can return to fight to the finishes with no rules or organization oversight.

Not "any" i'll gotten gains - only those identified as reviewble - which of course is absurd philosophically but necessary in practice.

Why must it always be 'all or nothing' why can't each event be evaluated under the guidance of the rules but adjusted so that the most just outcome can be achieved? This preference for accepting only the extremes has become an American cultural tunnel vision.

            - -Any evaluation of Page/Coatzee that accepts the extreme of a 40 sec round extension is tunnel vision, but boxing is rife with tunnel vision.

The extreme? So Coetzee being fine at the 3 minute mark when the bell SHOULD have rung and being stopped 40 seconds after because the bell didn't ring sits fine with you? It should have been more closely addressed at the time, but that it wasn't doesn't make it any less of an injustice. God knows if it were Holmes who benefitted from something like this you would be screaming to high heaven until the end of your days

This has nothing to do with Coetzee being fine at the 3 min mark and getting stopped 40 seconds after the bell was supposed to ring by no fault of his own. You're an idiot.

I agree. No contest and rematch. So did they ever get a rematch?
