Not really a talented guy but a tough little trash talking SOB. Beat Jimmy Paul, Pazienza and Camacho. I see he has a book out. Might be an interesting read. Somewhat forgotten. What say ye ?

I think he is underrated these days. Probably because he as a junkie took a beating from the great Chavez. He actually had an excellent jab that always found it’s mark.

can you link to the book?

He got outboxed by Whitaker but beaten up by Chavez - did he have a drug induced decline in between?

What was Haugen on? The coke, like a lot of guys at the time? I loved that he came out to Born in the USA when fighting Chavez in Mexico. Classic heel (villain) tactic right there, along with saying that most of Chavez's wins up to that point were Tijuana just cab drivers.

Also has some nice wins over Paz, Camacho and Mancini. Anyone know why there was no third and deciding fight with Camacho? Did they try to get it signed, at least?

His positive tests for marijuana is well documented. For the Chavez fight, I've read several accounts of him being on *******
            .

“I was going through a tough divorce and trained on ******* and vodka,” Haugen said. “I fought Chavez with a broken heart.”

And yeah Anthony: The 'Most of Chavez wins is against Tijuana taxi-drivers' is still one of the ATG trash-talking lines. Haugen was fantastic at that.

I read an excerpt from the book and Haugen stated this: " Everyone thought I learned how to fight in the ToughMan fights in Alaska", Greg explains. "Most people don't realize I had over three hundred amateur fights," he continues. Greg cites that amateur pedigree, to help him succeed against much bigger men who " wanted to take my head off"
