Opie completely misrepresented the persona of Max Baeiour as the menacing killer clown. And Jethro's not having it.

I remember hearing about this when the movie came out. They said the movie took a lot of liberties that he wanted to kill people in the ring.

They had to exaggerate and stretch the truth to create a bad guy for the hero to beat.

Of course there are only a few . . . there only being a few is axiomatic to the word . . . make a film off formula and one critic is going to swear he can see God in your film while another will call it incoherent gibberish . . . so you stick to the formulas and you make money . . . you make money you get to make an another film . . . you don't make money you get a day job . . . so don't bad mouth Ron Howard's talent for doing his job.

On the other hand maybe we should allow families to sue for slander on behalf of dead relatives . . . if Max Baer was still alive this would be a slam dunk civil suit . . . Opie would never have made the film. . . IMO Opie was just plain wrong and shouldn't have done it.

There are all kinds of articles and even videos devoted to how full of crap movies "Based on a True Story" are. There's a great youtube channel called History Buffs that analyzes the authenticity of biopics, breaking down scenes and saying what really happened, what are lies and what's partially true. He did a great video on Goodfellas. I believe Joey Giardello successfully sued the studio involved with The Hurricane, for making it look like Ruben Carter was robbed in their fight when in real life he clearly won. I read an article after Ruth Bader Ginsburg died that in the cable movie about her, the studio wanted the husband to be more opposed to Ruth's ambition's over the type of cases she took, but the director and writer stood firm because they wanted to portray things how they really happened, since there was already plenty of conflict without creating more.
