Michael Spinks was scared on June 27, 1988

To me, that reeks of hindsight bias. It seems that it was a foregone conclusion that Tyson would blow out Spinks now that we look back at it. It seems like Spinks was scared of Tyson, but no one was saying that prior to the fight. No one predicted a 1st round blow out, in fact, many thought that Spinks would really test Tyson. It wasn't until after the 1st round destruction that everyone says that Spinks was scared and that he had no chance.

In after sight it did not take that much foresight to know that what Spinks did best was not going to work against Tyson. Spinks did not really know how to us a reach advantage. He liked to pivot in close.

Spinks probably wasn't scared up until he actually had to get in the ring with Tyson. Than again, maybe he was.

I thought the CW was that they had to talk Spinks out of the dressing room which delayed the start of the fight. Maybe it was just post fight gossip.

The delay was due to Butch Lewis - Spinks' manager - having noticed something in Tyson's gloves that he didn't like, and asking for his hands to be wrapped again. Time was wasted for this issue, which apparently made Iron Mike even angrier.

Yes heard he made Tyson rewrap his hands three times causing Tyson to punch a hole in the locker room wall. Yea heard that one too.

Well, not exactly... They never rewrapped Tyson's hands. Lewis continued to whine until Eddie Futch, who was training Spinks, saw Tyson's gloves and confirmed they were OK.

In any case, Lewis did not do any favor to his fighter with that shìt

                - -Butch weren't long in the boxing biz nor was DKing's illicit son. Carl may possibly resurrect with the elderly King in poor health and 90 years old still ruining fighters albeit on the popcorn scale now.

Spinks said he wasent afraid of Tyson’s power in the locker room. He should have been scared, stayed well away the first couple rounds as best he could. My Dad thought Spinks had a chance to box Tyson, he beat Larry Holmes after all. Truth is it’s hard to really analyze a minute and a half and make assumptions or hypotheticals on how things could go differently.
