1991 Holyfield vs 1976 Ron Lyle

I was just watching Holyfield/Foreman and it got me to thinking, how would Holyfield of that fight have done against the Lyle who fought and almost beat George Foreman in 1976.

    - -In 1991 Field hanging on for dear life vs Big George and near KOed vs Bert Cooper who was a short notice replacement fighter. Figure a good chance Lyle with a decent training camp like vs Big George finishes what Cooper started...

Holy wins by late round TKO. I always liked Lyle but he was easily outboxed.

Lyle gets out boxed because he needs you to stand still to hit you w a ****er. Holyfield easily gets lured into a brawl as well but has decent boxing ability. For me it’s a pick em, but I think Holyfield wins if they both show up ready. Holyfield had a lot in the tank when he was young. Could see Lyle sparking him too though

Otherwise U can point us to a boxing masterclass by Field. We the unwashed masses await with baited breath...

It seems that most here have decided that holy has the edge in his boxing ability. it makes sense to analyze the fight that way... But sometimes its the one thing one guy can do and even if it is only that thing, it looms large.

Lyle had the kind of will one sees with Marciano and Frazier... Holly also had that kind of drive lol... Holly could box BUT HE seldom did when engaging a hitter. I don't think Holly will box Lyle. I do think that Holly does a few more things than Lyle... But at the end of the day Lyle has a little better punch resistance... and not much, just a little better... I think this is a toss up for that reason. Bad style for Holly because unless Don Turner can convince him otherwise Holly is slugging it out, last man standing.

Two very willful fighters, Lyle with an inch more resistance... Unless Holly boxes it goes to Lyle like the Foreman fight went to Big George... If Holly boxes? its like everyone says.

I’m with both of you. I’ll never get sick of saying it, my dad the day after Tyson destroyed Spinks told me a guy named Evander Holyfield will beat Mike Tyson. Foreman vs Qawi is a good fight to watch not a lot of people know that happened. George was his lightest in his comeback. After that fight he said he’d never come in that light again.
