  • How did Joe Fraizers son get a title shot?

10-0 and fights supposedly one of the ATG HW champs in Larry Holmes. Did Joe fraizer really use his connections to send his son to the slaughter house? How many other fights like this defined larry holmes reign?

You can find fights like that for many champions throughout history.

Marvis was a highly decorated amateur who had just come off of a win against Joe Bugner, who at that point had only lost to either Champs or Challengers.

**** like this always looks worse looking back on.

Funny career - one could out of context point out that he has only two loses Holmes and Tyson. Not too shabby if he only had 50 wins to go with them.

He did beat Smith, Ribalta, Tillis and Bugner. Second tier fighters but certainly not bums.

        Strange, short career.

Beside's dad's connections the sensation that was Neon Leon may have made TV foolish enough to buy into the fight. Larry on his own just wasn't a draw. That's why Gooney got a parity purse when shouldn't have.

Hard not to give him a shot at Tyson in '86 when he beats Tills, Ribalta, and Smith, but that too was a fight that probably wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for his surname.

          - -Tubby Lar who started skinny, was skating on thin ice his whole career, so King arranged a bunch of baby fights for him. Prob being Mike Spinks was the real deal by having won his title in the ring.

Lar record is 0-6, 0 KO against such fighters.

The number four all time heavyweight as seen by the esteemed International boxing research organization. You must know something they don't.

It was largely because of the Frazier name. Holmes didn’t really have many big name options so they opted for this fight. Pretty sure the WBC refused to sanction it and soon-after Holmes accepted recognition from the IBF becoming their first ever Heavyweight champion.

As others have mentioned though Marvis was a decent Heavyweight, evidently nowhere near Holmes’ level but he had a few solid wins over guys like Bugner and Bonecrusher Smith.

How did Pete Radamacher get a heavyweight title shot in his first professional fight? He certainly didn't have the name recognition of Marvis Frazier on a professional level. He had a Gold medal, but that is an amateur accolade. At least Frazier's fight with Holmes was a non title fight.
