One aspect of the event that the author ignored was that in both negotiations with Ali, Wilt was in the midst of negotiating a new contract with his respective basketball team, the suggestion being that he could point to the possible fight as an alternative revenue stream and therefore leverage.

Also in regards to the lawyers' tax advise there is a NYT article where Wilt offers to fight if the promoter (Bob Arum ???) would guarantee his purse tax free. Of course that was unrealistic but it does confirm what this article suggests that there was a tax concern.

I don't believe Chamberlain ever really wanted to fight Ali. As pointed out in the article he seemed downright afraid of Ali. It would seem you're correct about leveraging a new contract.

        - -3x negotiations, but the last two were just Wilt messing his LA BB baron in contract negotiations. Already been covered by me ad infinitum, so I guess U was transitioning from Barney trainers to Harry Potters back then. Cong**** on the promotion...

Lies were covered by you ad infinitum. What we have here is the truth. You couldn't possibly know the difference if it wasn't posted on AOL.

Of course he was afraid of Ali. Wilt was a very smart man and an exceptional athlete. He knew there was only one possible outcome in what would have been a complete farce of an exhibition. First punch Ali lands would cause Wilt to cower helpless. Fights over seconds later but my expectation would be that Ali would carry him 3-4 rounds before ending it.

From what I read, he began training and realized it was very hard and withdrew from the plans.

                  - -U quote stuff completely out of context to the timelines and which have no bearing on anything but what U transmongrify to match U double digit IQ.

Only real fight was 67 and Ali backed out of the deal Cosell had set up for their signing. Bottom line in the 70s was there was no $$$ with fighting a defrocked Ali, so Wilt being smarter than 10 of U combined, made Ali into a useful idiot for BB contract negotiations much like Babe did while with Boston. Both went into training and were ready to fight and both team front offices caved to grant them their contract demands.

Get U minder to 'splain it fer U...

Prove it. Show some links. Provide some "context". You talk a lot, but you never show proof on anything.
