Good point. There's also famous stories of a few lost movies in the early years of Hollywood like the famous Lon Chaney film London After Midnight which is considered lost and is another people are hoping might be just lost and not destroyed.

I found this to be an interesting tidbit about lost films.

Martin Scorsese's Film Foundation claims that "half of all American films made before 1950 and over 90% of films made before 1929 are lost forever."^[4]Deutsche Kinemathek estimates that 80–90% of silent films are gone;^[5] the film archive's own list contains over 3,500 lost films.

A study by the Library of Congress states that 75% of all silent films are now lost.^[6] While others dispute whether the percentage is quite that high,^[7] it is impractical to enumerate any but the more notable and those that can be sourced.

The Wills-Firpo fight (if that is the one you are referring to) was a Tex Rickard fight. Rickard had great success presenting the Dempsey-Carpentier fight dispite the Sims prohibiton law - he then afterwares filmed all his fights and had inconsistent success in presenting the films.

Two years later the Dempsey-Firpo didn't go so well, the fed's came down hard on him and he never got the film out of New York. But by Dempsey-Tunney II (1927) Rickard had the system worked, with legal technicalities and bribes, he had great distribution of the film across the county. I believe this is why we have such good surviving prints of the Tunney II fight but poor prints of the Firpo fight (number of prints available to survive the attrition of time.)

Actually I believe we can forget about finding a Greb fight but it wouldn't t surprise me a bit if somewhere there is a Wills-Sharkey fight stashed away.

But IMO we have a Wills fight because of Rickard. Filming something less than a HW championship or HW championship elimination fight might not have been worth the investment.

Greb just may have not warranted the expense of filming his fights. I think Greb is likely more popular legacy wise today then he was at his own time. Certainly the boxing fans loved him back then but I doubt if he held the crossover appeal to the general populace that could regularly packed stadiums never mind pack move theatres across the country.

Back to my thread. I showed travestyny several wills films with a link. He's an idiot for questioning if they exists. Now he wants to see a full film? What a joke.

If you have these full fights, post them up, because I've only managed to see edited pieces of two rounds against Firpo. In fact, I remember these three fights, along with training footage, all being packaged into 11 minutes.

Hello there. Unfortunately some fights in my collection are not for uploading as those were the rules I agreed to when I obtained them.

Firpo looks awful, and Wills pretty average outside of the knockdown. Will looks pretty poor vs. Madden and that was was before Firpo. How far past it was he for these fights/ tough to tell, the Press didn't say he was slowing down at the time.
