  • Wrestler Fritz Von Erich kicked Rocky Marciano's butt

According to his wife and last surviving son.

They talked a lot about Fritz, about his strong Christian faith and early career. They went on at length about a match he’d fought in New York. Heavyweight boxing champ Rocky Marciano was serving as celebrity referee, and before the match started, he attacked Fritz. Though the crowd likely assumed it was part of the act, Kevin and Doris said it was without warning or reason.

“So Dad kicked his butt,” said Kevin.

“He did,” added Doris. “There’s no boxer who can beat a wrestler. Marciano thought he’d make a little name for himself.”

“After the match, Dad took care of him in the dressing room.”

“Well,” said Doris, “he took pretty good care of him in the ring too.”

So Rocky just went full r3tard on a guy for no reason at a gig?!?!? That don't sound like Rocky with his concern for $$$. Anyone more unbiased commenting on this?

Not that I couldn't see a wrestler take out a boxer. Inoki gave Ali hell & dude was on his back the whole damn "fight".

Cool story. I imagine that it was all part of the act and the family just continued to play along....???? Would be so odd for Rocky to just attack the guy for no reason.

I have to imagine that unless Rocky KOs him before Fritz can grab him, that a 6'4" 260lb wrestler would ragdoll the 5'10" 185lb Marciano

How do we know Ricky lost - all we got is this other guy's kid's story.

You know this is wrestling and it was probably played out like King Kong vs. Godzilla, (1950s version) you got sensitive dedicated fans on both sides so you have to be careful how you write the script. I just can't see Rocky signing on to getting his butt kicked. There was probably enough for everyone to see what they wanted to see.

Strangler Lewis chased Dempsey for six years; challenging Dempsey in the newspapers every 18 months or so. Dempsey was always kind and pretended that it might actually happen. The challenges always got Lewis some free press for his carnival act.

Pro wrestlers are carnies. Would not believe a word that comes out of their mouths about things like this. I will say that pro wrestling especially back in the day, had some of the toughest guys around. If you did not land the first punch and they get a hold of you, it's all over.

If it happened in the ring at a pro wrestling show, then I'm sure it was just as real as all the other fights that happened on that show.

She says Marciano "wanted to make a name for himself" by attacking her dad. So Rocky wasn't already a name? Sounds like a staged affair to me.

Maybe this was the inspiration for Rocky vs. Thunderlips
