Who Do You Rank Higher Mike Tyson or George Foreman ?

I rank Foreman slightly higher. The second half of his career post-comeback is what pushes him ahead for me. Tyson didn’t have the longevity and never seemed to fully recover mentally from his loss to Douglas. Foreman had a similar mental breakdown after his loss to Young, but a ten year hiatus saw him come back with adjustments to his style and he became the oldest HW to win a title. Got some decent wins in Moorer, Cooper, Shultz, Cooney and Qawi. Went the distance with a prime Holyfield, and Morrison—who chose to literally run from Foreman in that fight.Comment

Mike Tyson did have better skill and ability, and really? His championship reign was better than any of George Foreman's.
Still I would rank George Foreman higher.
Mike Tyson was the first undisputed heavyweight Champion and made 9 successful defenses 'In his first title reign'.
Tyson also won the WBA, WBC heavyweight titles for the second time when he came back from Jail.
As a champion Mike Tyson was a better fighter than George Foreman, but still I rate Foreman higher.
Neither fighter has any bad loses in my opinion, they have not suffered any loses where they completely got destroyed easily.
Buster Douglas has to produce the fight of his life, he had to get up off the deck to win 'And maintain heavy bombardment of Mike Tyson, STILL Tyson was searching for his mouth peace on the floor and wanting to fight on' It is a complete myth that Tyson would just disappear when faced with resistance.
B-Class fighters don't have the technical sophistication of Mike Tyson, and they don't win multiple titles and defend them.

B-Class fighters don't become undisputed heavyweight champions and defend their titles 9 times 'Mike Tyson defended his heavyweight title 9 times during his first reign'
In total he has made 10 successful defenses, and won 12 championship fights.
Your boy Tyson Fury has made 0 title defenses, he has never been favourite at elite level 'Survived that kind pressure, and behaved like a champion'
This is why Nash Out, as we speak right now? You are spooked. Tomorrow? You will be spooked, next month? You will be spooked. The closer Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua gets, the more spooked you will get. It is alright.
B-Class fighters don't have the technical sophistication of Mike Tyson, they don't throw combinations or have a defense like Mike Tyson. And Mike Tyson had a defense mate, because he was 5"11 215-220 pounds, fighting bigger guys who knew 'They had to detonate ammunition upon him to win'.
Mike Tyson could not stand 10 meters away from his opponent, and then claim he has a defense 'That is what Tyson Fury does'. On the inside I am not so sure Fury's defense is as highly sophisticated as past fighters such as Holyfield or Tyson.
So far Tyson Fury has not been a good champion, it is like he does not want to be a champion 'He wants to be continually the underdog'. He should win against Joshua, but there is still that big question mark whether he can cope with this new environment as a champion.
This is the first time in Fury's career he has been to the big dance, as the main attraction 'Mike Tyson did that his entire career'.

Foreman beat way better fighters so that's pretty much all that matters. he also had 2 successful careers in 2 different eras. I don't really see the comparison. Tyson is more famous, that's about it.Comment

Foreman had a better career against historically more respected names. The unwritten truth about Tyson's career is that, like Holmes and Klitschko, his run was against a fairly weak level of HW competition. You can only fight who was there, but if Spinks is considered his best win (do not argue we all know it is) then it cannot match up to George. I do not even care if Foreman lost some of those. It is not like Tyson would have walked through Ali, Frazier, and Lyle the way he did all the "B" level HW he fought in his prime.
I rank Tyson high and LOVE the man for breathing life back into the sport. But Foreman has a better resume.Comment

Foreman. Beat Frazier and Norton and went on the reclaim the HW title at 46 against a dangerous southpaw. Also, took the best of a younger Holyfield in his 40s while Tyson stopped in his 30s. Sorry, just estimating their ages, can't be bothered looking up but certainly Foreman was way way older than Tyson.Last edited by iamboxing; 04-09-2021, 10:27 AM.Comment
