don't think Plate was saying Tyson was similar to Shavers. I think he was ranking him about as highly in terms of fighting effectiveness.

I think Tyson and Shavers were about on a par in terms of effective they were against good bad or mediocre opposition.

Coming to a fight unprepared is a choice. Starvation usually isn't.

I've been watching these old Tyson videos, and lemme tell you he was something else.

Tyson did have boxing skill. He had basic boxing skill, but because of his explosiveness, strength and power he made it a lot more dynamic. The way he slips hooks and jabs is amazing. In the mid 80's he was hella sharp and crisp. His interviews were sharper and crisper when he was younger.

Unfortunately his prime only lasted for 5 years. The guy was a youngster when he was on top. Can you imagine all that pressure and stuff he was feeling? You can almost tell from his eyes in the ring.

I think Tyson was one of the greats. However, he had the wrong people behind him (obviously) so he couldn't develop his full potential. Another tragic tale of paradise lost. That's fcuked up how the business did him like that.

          Tyson's dope.

Maybe he should of slipped more punches form Buster Douglas and maybe he wouldnt of been knocked flat on his butt. Tyson looked impressive early on because he never fought anybody, and when he did step up he fought Don King controlled fighters. Tysons best wins came over guys King paid to take a dive for him and when he stepped in class and fought fighters not controlled by King he got knocked out.

There is nothing special about Tysons career. He was a loud idiot who **** and beat women which is basically the reason he became popular. This country loves to see black males make a fool out of themselves. If Tyson was quiet and never got in trouble he would of never became this popular. That being said Tyson would of knocked any so called heavyweight pre Sonny Liston with ease. The Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano's, Jack Dempseys would of all been knocked out in a few rounds by Tyson.

Any fighter post Liston who was tall, had a good jab, had a decent chin and wasn't afraid of short, cowards who ****d women would beat Tyson. Fighters like Rid**** Bowe, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Ron Lyle, and David Tua would of knocked him out in less than 3 rounds.

Exactly. The way he used his style was pretty impressive.

Like i've said, the only reason why his greatness can't be measured by accomplishments is because of the people he had around him. He was like fast cash, money in the bank because people will pay to watch a mutha fcuka knock fools out. Therefore, the people who guided his career (after D'mato, Jacobs, Rooney, Altas) limited his greatness by setting him up with chumps who won't push or test Mike. Politics man. Plus, there relatively weren't anyone to fight in the 90s. Except for Moore, Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis. But like i said, his management team didn't want him to fight challenging opponents. On top of all that, he has psychological issues that no one really cared about. So he was fcuked from the beginning.

The only way Mike is distinguished is he's the youngest to ever get a heavyweight title, his style, and how he knocked fools out. This is all pre-penitentiary of course. I don't count his career after he got out. His career was all hype at that point.

I would concurr with that. He's a second-tier slugger like Shavers. He sure ain't in Foreman's or Liston's league.
                Tyson is no slugger.

And he was a much more effective than shavers, he could finish opponents better than any of those three fighters. As a fighter and based on accomplishments Tyson is waaay ahead of Shavers.

As for Yogis comments, i was just stating how accomplishment wise Shavers wasn't near Tyson. I dnt wanna turn this into a bashing of Shavers as he was a decent fighter on par with Bruno i would say, but he wasn't at the level of Tyson. And saying Foreman and Liston were is also debatable but is a fair statement.

                      excuses excuses!!!!

it is ultimately tysons fault why he turned out to be a massive embarassment, not the people around him, the way people act you would think he was a ******ed 6 year old, plenty of fighter have had ****wits for managers and groupies, but they didnt go biting peoples ears off and smearing the reputation of the sweet science
