  • How well would SRR do by todays standard?

SRR is said to be the first and the best P4p I believe, but how would a legend like him do by todays standard against a B-Hop, Calzaghe, Pavlik or Kessler in your opinion and why?

The names you mentioned are all above welterweight and some even above standard middleweight, so they're not good examples to use.

As a general analysis - there's little reason to believe he wouldn't do well. I do however think that his KO ratio would be less considering that his hand speed is no longer a unique phenomenon and that style of opening up from all angles has been seen and incorporated into the repertoire of many fighters since. I think offensively he would be somewhat less effective and thus might be forced into developing his somewhat lacking defensive game more in order to get off his shots effectively. His chin would obviously hold up just as frighteningly well as it did in that era.

Well I haven't seen any of his fights at WW but since his hand speed, power, combination, stamina, chin...w/e just name it. Was good at MW I'm sure it was just as good at WW...I think he'd beat everyone at 147, 154 and would lose to a RJJ, B-Hop, James Toney...Not that he can't possibly win

His workrate will be MUCH better NOW since back then he faught 15 round fights...So he might actally be more dangrous

Does anyone know how many videos of SRR fights are out there

A lot. I've seen films of his fights against Fullmer, Basilio, Graziano, Maxim, Pender, Moyer, LaMotta, Angott, Olson, Turpin, Villemain, Leahy, Fusari, Archer, Panter, Castellani, Barnes, Jones, Delannoit, Hecht, Walzack, Van Dam, a couple of amateur fights and I might be forgetting some...

Robinson fought at lightweight, welterweight, middleweight and light heavyweight. He was not a light heavyweight (only weighed 157 against Maxim) but I see him doing well in all other divisions.

Robinson was washed up in many of those. I would recommend to watch the fights he had before his first retirement although he had some good performances even after 1955.

            Some youtube clips:

            Robinson vs Graziano

            Robinson vs LaMotta

            Robinson vs Turpin

            A couple of quick knockouts:

            Over 40 year old Robinson:

I have always felt that Robinson is about as good as Shane Mosley. Watch the two fight back to back, they are absolute clones.

Their footwork is identical. Their defense is pretty much identical. Their body jabs... identical. their left hooks, identical. They both throw that long right hand to the body that hits with the thumb.

Robinson looks a little more graceful, but I think that is just because he is taller.

he would do well, his speed and power are up to par and he's very tough. I don't think he would dominate in the same fashion as he did during his day, but he would definitely be a force to recon with. Moving up to middleweight and dominating the better middleweights wouldn't happen though, to many good middleweights that have been floating around.

                Robinson vs PW at 147

                Robinson vs Margerito

Robinson vs De la hoya (a few years ago)

                Robinson vs Trinidad

                all good fights.

for some Reason I see Trinidad stopping him late, Maybe thats just me. There is a lot of footage of Robinson just eating a left hook because his hands were down, you can't do that with Trinidad.

Robinson was better then Shane. He threw more fluid combinations, had a better jab, and was a lot stronger. I also would say he was a bit faster.

Do you have a link for this? I haven't seen it and this was at Welterweight/Lightweight wasn't it (depends which one). They fought twice right?

Robinson is faster than mosley hits harder, and has much better combinations....with meaning.
