Both Gerrie Coetzee vs Greg Page and Mike Weaver were promoted in South Africa at the height of aparthied. Coincidently, Don King was the promoter of both these fights and at least one of these guys (Page and Weaver) had serious reservations about taking the fight, under the circumstances of the promotion. Another fighter and titlist during that period (Larry Holmes) if I remember correctly refused to take part in any kind of promotion in South Africa during that time despite being offered fistfuls of cash.

Its always more fun to see the fighter from your country beat the other man's guy.

Schmeling still ended up having it better than Joe Louis.

Schmeling was an excellent fighter and a great man in his own right who never went against his own convictions despite Adolf Hitler or the country he lived in. In my opinion he was every bit the man Jack Johnson, Joe Louis and Muhammed Ali were. Different circumstances, same inner strength, fortitude and sense of moral code.

What's your point? Holmes was against apartheid no matter how much money was being thrown at him. To a normal thinking human being that is a commendable act. You dug up a 13 year old post to show us Larry had moral convictions? Good job!
